@windowpainting16: I’m sure you are right. I’m just anticipating the stress of waiting and waiting to know already and I’m freaking myself out, haha. I’ve really got to just keep my mind off of UWC until the app’s come out otherwise I’m going to end up going crazy :P

Another random little thing I forgot to mention is that by the end of this year I will be fluent in Sign Language, which I am taking in school. I don’t know if they will care at all, but that could somehow be tied into the whole multicultural aspect of things in some way or another :)

@lindzmm: Believe me, I know the stress, or anxiety, or excitement, or whatever you want to call it! When I first found out about the UWCs I thought it was sort of surreal and I couldn’t believe that such a multicultural, academic, and progressive place existed, let alone on scholarship! I wish all of you the best of luck!

Also if anyone else has questions about the process feel free to ask. And if anyone wants someone to read their essay or do some sort of essay help system once the prompts come out I’m happy to give my feedback as well (if it’s even wanted lol). :D

Thank you for talking to us and keeping us a bit more sane, windowpainting! I hope your application goes smoothly this year :)

Of course! I love helping all you guys, if I’m even helpful haha. I wish I had someone to ask all of my stupid, anxious, and weird questions to last year.

Also, one more tip: if you really want to see the culture of the schools more than just the locations, my best advice would be to check out the lip-dubs most of the schools did last year on YouTube and to search for student blogs. That was one of the things I found most helpful in deciding which schools I would most like to attend.

Correction: not that your questions are stupid, anxious, or weird. I just know mine were!! :P

Oh yeah, I love the lipdubs that was what actually made me place RCN second!

As Lunascreatures said, thank you so much! I haven’t seen the lipdubs, I’ll have to look those up, but I’ve read way too many blogs and watched other youtube videos so I’m definitely getting a feel for it :)

Haha omg you guys remind me so much of myself last year!!

Ok, turns out I have seen a few of them. I just didn’t put it together that that’s what you were talking about. Too bad, cause I was hoping for something more! And haha, it’s funny because I feel like we are all very similar, hopefully we will all be at a UWC this time next year because I honestly believe that we all deserve it!

I feel the same way! Which one of you is from Cali? Maybe I’ll see you at our interview!

I’m from California Hopefully I will see you there. Fingers Crossed

So what subjects do you guys like the most at school?

Ohh, hard question. I guess my favorite class right now is ASL (sign language), but thats probably just because of my teacher. But I kinda like everything… As nerdy as that sounds I like reading and writing, so you’d think English, but I like math just as much cause it’s so concrete and straight forward, and history is so interesting. The only class I don’t really love is Science… not really a fan, haha. What about you windowpainting16?

My favorite classes that I’m taking right now are AP US History and AP Physics. I love history, but I’m also definitely a science person. I love seeing how concepts connect and working through a puzzle. While I, too, love books and writing, I don’t particularly like English as a school subject, but that might just be because I’ve never had a very good English teacher.

Very cool Teachers can definitely make or break a subject.

My D is applying for Atlantic this year. We live 1.5 hours away from Pearson, so she went on a tour last year. We homeschool, so the grades are a little more subjective. She is currently in Gr 10, but took 4 Tenth grade and above courses last year, and received A’s. She’s taking English 11 this year.
She wants to be a music therapist, so the opportunities in Wales are the best location. It seems there are more positions for those who can pay- which we certainly can not.
If anyone wants info on Pearson, happy to help.

HL music is offered at UWC USA but the teacher is a little kooky and the private lessons are also a mixed bag. On the whole, I love Armand Hammer where oldest daughter is a current student. She is having a very good experience. I don’t know about music at any other UWCs. Can Canadians get scholarships for any of the other UWCs or only certain ones? U.S. students get scholarships at any location. Unless they can’t be flexible about his interview, son will be reapplying this year while he is on exchange in China.

Most Canadians end up at Pearson. They send maximum 2 students per school internationally. Our province does not sponsor students directly, and we don’t have the $ to send her directly. Atlantic has a music therapy service area, so would be the best hope for her career. We’ll see. She has 2 years of opportunity, so we’re hoping for the best.

In answer to windowpainting and lindzmm - my favorite subject this year is AP European History, and it’s definitely because of the great teachers. The subject is taught amazingly at my school, the two teachers who teach it coordinate their lessons and they are enthralling. Last year, though, my favorite subject was Honors Biology - again, a great teacher. I don’t know which subject I’d pick as my favorite if I were judging purely by the subject and not the class. Math, maybe? Or one of the sciences. Hm. I’m bad at deciding :P
