UWC applicants year 2014

@lalalarae I know exactly what you mean. I would cry of I to anything lower than an A on my report card but the rest of my school’a logic is: hey, I’m PASSING!! Wow guys I’m passing and I don’t even study!! I don’t understand those people…

…and again :’)
@RipCity14 you have better communicational skills than me! haha :)

@farmgirlmoo yep right now so many people are active that by the time I’m done writing a post someone has already commented about it.

@Santoast13, the same happened to me but at facebook. All the Americans were talking in the group for 2014 applicants while I was at school.

Here we have grades 1-5 five is the best. Teachers sometimes put a star on your test if you scored maximum but just for fun. At exams the best you can get is a five. And our educational system is very complex but nothing like UWC. We have twice as much subjects but we don’t learn anything that deeply. Only if you choose to take a course HL and that is only possible in the last two years.

@Santoast13, I totally understand you. The same is going on in my school. And they can’t understand why I am upset for getting a 4 when everybody else got a 2 or so. The answer is: because I want to achieve something in life and a 4 is not enough for that let alone passing with a 2. But if we can make it to UWC then things might get better in this aspect. :)

@MediDuet and @Santoast13 YESSSS!!! All my friends were laughing at me when I was upset I got a 98 on a History paper instead of a 100. Lot of kids don’t really care as long as they don’t fail. I don’t see the point. I’m not studying to learn only 98% of the material.

i agree with you. i get upset with Bs… but some people work as hard as they can, and barely scrape a c. it’s not that they’re stupid, they just genuinely aren’t " built" to be academic!

Thanks guys i thought I was missing something

@farmgirlmoo, true true. By UWC standards, I’m not at all academically inclined but for my standards back home I’m one of the smartest kids, hahaha. It just goes to show the difference in lifestyle. And also does anyone know what the situation with sports is in UWC?

RipCity14, what I’ve rad is that UWCSEA competes at team sports like volleyball. If I am right their team went to India a last year or a few years ago. At LPC they have a badminton team which competes against local schools. I think sports are quite important at UWCs.

@MediDuet if that’s true then it’s awesome. I’m a huuuuge die hard basketball fan, and I love cricket and football (not american football for my friends state side) as well.

@RipCity14, I also like basketball. I used to play it but stopped after three year. I am too short for that. I’ve been playing badminton and competing. I and so in love with badminton. And tennis also but I am not that good at all as I’ve never trained. Sometimes I go to a court to play tennis with my dad but just for fun.

@MediDuet, don’t let that stop you man. I’m only 5"6 (168cm) and I don’t care. Of course it helps that I mostly play with other Indian guys who are also short and if you’re 6 feet you’re considered a giant. I’m sure that is waay different in Europe and especially America.

You can get around the height disadvantage though. I may not be able to take it into the paint too well, so I worked on my jumper.

sports are my weakspot… you know there’s that one person who looks so awkward when they do any sport…? that’s me! I’ve been told i run like fish! how is that possible?:’) I’m actually not bad at athletics, i just look so ridiculous! hehehe!

@MediDuet do you know of any of the schools swim competitively? That’s one of the things I’ll really miss if I leave (I’m on the bus to go to swim practice as I write this  )

@Santaost13 I know MUWCI has a swimming pool if that helps, hahaha. And @farmgirlmoo if you think you look awkward playing sports, be happy you haven’t seen me try to dance. I’m not uncoordinated or anything, i’m just incredibly uncomfortable dancing. Feels SO awkward.

@RipCity14 don’t even get me started on dance! I’m like an elephant on ice skates! :’)

@santaost13 I’m a swimmer too! What’s your stroke? I know that AC and USA have pools and you can work as a lifeguard at AC. Swim is one thing I would miss at uwc but I think it would be worth it… Most of the colleges will arrange trips to the nearest pool for people that like I swim it just wouldn’t be competitive I would race you :p

@farmgirlmoo it’s ok, I’ve had three knee surgeries since I was about 11 so I just run really awkward, but I’m good at swimming! I made varsity my freshman year!
@RipCity14 yea I heard of a few that have pools, just none with a team :frowning: at least I know when I go to college there will probably be some teams!

@lalalarae oh yay another swimmer! I swim backstroke and sometimes free. What about you? I’d love to race you if we end up in the same school haha
