Sorry that may have been a slight overreaction
I’m doing: Maths, English (lit&lang), Double award Science, Welsh (1st language), French, Music, Drama, Geography, Welsh Bacc, and Italian!

@Farmgirlmoo, haha no worries. And I don’t know, I get what he’s saying, albeit it takes a bit for me to understand, I eventually get what he’s saying, I just don’t find it interesting at all. And WOW, Welsh, French, and Italian. That will definitely help you getting into a UWC. Even IF I get in I plan on taking Hindi (My grammar is pretty crap :P).

And I know that if your UWC doesn’t offer Welsh as a subject, you can always take it self taught, a lot of people do that. They take their national language as self taught if they don’t want to take one of the languages offered by the school.

@RipCity14 Hahaha, I’m fluent welsh, but french is like average… and italian… i’m soooo bad at it! Will be surprised if I even pass! I speak German a bit too! mwhaha:3 Yeah, I think I’d do english though, because I’m more comfortable with it! But not going to worry about that unless i get in! :)

@farmgirlmoo, which UWC are you planning on applying too? And does anyone know what your respective national committee experience is like? Mainly I want to know if they ask you which school you want to join.

My friends all went into the Indian National Committee, and the whole interview process and stuff was held on campus itself so it was pretty sweet. And they said very rarely do you NOT get into the school you want and get farmed out to another UWC.

@RipCity14 I’m applying to my National Committee open to wherever they want to send me, but I’d love to go to Mahindra, Waterford Kamhlaba, USA, Armenia or… BOSNIA!
Here is the UK our committee ask you later on in the process what you preferences are. They said they wouldn’t ever send you somewhere you specifically said you don’t want to go, and you normally go to one of your top choices! That’s what i remember, anyway, but my memory… OH DEAR! ahaha! Sorry I’m not a fantastic help! :)

Awesomeee @farmgirlmoo yaa I totally like Bosnia and USA too - Armenia seems a bit too posh cos it used to be a regular prep school and Waterford is ok but not like a preference?? I’m doing triple science, English literature, geo, Latin and statistics atm I’ve already done maths (A), English language (A) I acc really liked it - it was so easy and fun literature I find boring but I like the texts I just find it hard analysing and stuff, history (A), music (A) bleh music is a terrible gcse, French (A) and Rreligious education (B) lol I hated that subject soo much … Hope u don’t take it as showing off whatever and it isn’t cos I did them as year courses (still proper gcses) so obvs easier cos less subjects … What kind of grades do u guys get? Funnily enough im only predicted 2A*s, mostly As and a C in Latin :(( a bit annoying but whatever

@Hedwig8 yeah, i think i’m drawn most to Bosnia :))) !! woahhhh well done! literally every time someone sand what they do I’m like “UHOH NO COLLEGE FOR ME” my mum actually just told me I’m not going to get in , so i shouldn’t bother thinking i have a chance. but i’m pretty sure the most of you will get in I’m not predicted any a*s :’( just straight a in everything but I’m not a great student anyway! :)

Am i the only one who only speaks English? I went to an international camp in Spain over the summer and this was a thing there, too (everyone laughed at me when I said I only spoke English, because they all spoke at least three languages Guess I didnt help the ignorant American stereotype). I mean, I love languages, but I can only speak English fluently!!
Also, I was thinking that its kind of funny to see how everyone on here is so different, yet we all seem to do a lot of the same types of activities (like MUN) and I realized that that probably plays a bigger role in the selection process than i orginally thought (reading through blogs, I noticed that most UWC students do love MUN and had done it before going to the colleges). Did any of you guys notice and EC trends?

says what they do* -SORRY

@farmgirlmoo, you actually answered my question perfectly.

@Hedwig8, I too don’t want to go to a UWC that is like a normal school, but prefer to go to one that is only 11th and 12th Grade (Mahindra).

@tecz77 One of the things I loved about UWC is that it handpicks it students so we are basically assured of like minded people and the same goes for people who are interested enough to live on this message board And don’t worry about only speaking English, as long as you are genuinely interested in learning another language, they have many courses and it shouldn’t be a problem in the selection process.

i only speak English and Welsh fluently, the others are awful! honestly!

@farmgirlmoo, my mum told me a similar thing. Her point was that the chance is so small that I shouldn’t be so incredibely obsessed (to the point when I was talking to her about UWC the whole afternoon, guess how annoying I was for her) because I was going to fall big if I don’t get in. But I replied her that I just can’t think about such a thing like UWC in a way like I might get in or I might not, whatever. I believe I am doing the right thing being obsessed and if I get rejected that I’ll have to cope with that.

I speak Hungarian fluently. (mother tongue so nothing interestin) I also speak English at the level you see me writing. I would say it is not like a mother tongue but I speak fluently. And I started French a year ago. I can understand a lot of things but my speaking is at beginner level.

Hedwig8, you are so lucky to be able to study Latin! Here we don’t have that subject only at some religious schools.

I only left CC until I did a bit of my homework and there were like ten new posts when I came back. I was like wooow. :)

@MediDuet, yep I went for a shower and there was a whole new page haha. And my schooling situation doesn’t even allow me to take any ECs but I was assured that ECs aren’t really that important.

Wow guys I’m so confused right now. Like I feel really american. What are GCSE’s? And what is an A*? Is that a better grade than an A? I know where I live as long as you have straight A’s you are pretty much as high as you can get. I do 6 ECs and I volunteer. And I only speak fluent English, but I know the basics of Spanish and a small bit of Italian.

You guys were all having these conversations while I was at school, I’m so lost

Wow are you guys all already in IB type programs? At my school we only have AP and AICE… There seems to be such an education gap between America and te rest of the world! Much of our schooling is a lot less serious and a UWC would be a nice change to see other people who want grades above a C!! I wish we could have the beautiful languages from Europe and Asia… I’m part of Latin but that isnt really something you speak

@Santaost13 GCSE is the English Board Exam. I take the same thing but aborad, so for me it’s IGCSE (I stands for international). And A* is A+. Basically the highest possible grade. And if you do 6 ECs that’s great and will probably help you a lot.

GCSEs are exams taken (generally) when a student is 15-16, although some can be taken earlier or later. They are the first recognised academic qualifications in the UK. A* is indeed higher than an A!

@farmgirlmoo, you are right that its usually taken when you are 15-16 but essentially it’s when you’re in the 10th grade. I’m 17 now, but will only actually take the exam when I’m 18 (Next June).

It’s awkward when i post something straight after someone else explained it better:’)
