UWC applicants year 2014

You guys’ application forms are due so late?:0
Mine met deadline last week, and in less than 2 weeks I will have to go for the aptitude test,I feel a bit pressurised.I’m really scared that I will screw it up and my chance for uwc 2014-2015 will end…

Yeah, i havent gotten my teacher or EC rec yet…
And as for any type of athletics, remember its extremely easy and encouraged to start your own club, so even if they dont have an established team it shouldnt be that hard to start one. The only problem is that some countries arent very big on some sports, so you might just have to scrimage with your team and not get to compete with other schools.
Also, i know everyone has been talking about their UWC preferences, and I was wondering if anyone knew whether their committees really stuck with your preference ranking. From what I have heard about the USA committee, they dont always go with your choices if they think a different college is good for you. I’ve read multiple blogs where the students stated that the college they attend was one of their last choices and were originally upset, but ended up loving it and realizing that the committee made the perfect choice…

@Jazzyxxx, mine came out on the 15th October. And you won’t screw it up! Best of luck!

@jazzyxxx, good luck on your test! I’m sure you’ll do well!
And at anyone: Do most of your countries also have some form of testing (like the aptitude test?). I know I have to submit transcripts and SATs, but to the best of my knowledge we dont have any kind of testing specifically for the application…

@tecz77, no, we don’t have. I only have to upload all of my grades from my certificate from last year and the year before. And send a photocopy of my certificate.

@MediDuet In Belgium you have to write the essays in the second ‘round’ then you have 1 or 2 days where you have to talk to others, play games and write your essay. So if your application papers aren’t okay then they don’t let you through the first round and you don’t have to write the essays :/

@WorldViewer, I see. Our system is probably better in terms of getting to know the applicant before the second round. But if someone is not a good essay writer then s/he is lucky in your system because a bad essay can worsen a lot!

How heavily do they weight ur SATs? I scored perfect in math and english but horribly in CR (didn’t break a 700 :c)

@worldviewer the Belgium system sounds so much better - like what if yoh try so are on ur essays but then you’re not even shortlisted, my gawsh that would suck

*you try so hard

@Hedwig8 yeah, that’s true. But we have to do it on a selection day so we’ll have less time I think. It surprises me that the selection system is so diffrent in some countries.

Woah ho that’s like a proper exam! Dayum

Yeah it can be a bit annoying about the different selection processes - in my country (like where I’m from - Mongolia) you only need to call the right people and name the right price and you’re basically in  and then there’s so many people going through such stressful times

It doesn’t make sense !!

@worldviewer my favourite colleges are ever changing but at the moment I am looking into AC, AD, RNC, RBUWC, Li Po Chun the most. I’m part of the facebook group too :)

@teenagecrime You are the third from new jersey! I think UWCSEA has volleyball but I don’t think any of the others currently offer volleyball, but from what I’ve seen you can pretty much start any kind of club/activity that you want as long as you have a couple of other people interested! If we end up at the same one I’m willing to play even though I only have beach volleyball experience :stuck_out_tongue: I’m sure they will LOVE your science competitions! I haven’t asked for any either, but I talked to my teacher and he wants a whole resume.

@tecz77 My cousin went to UWC and when she went USA was the fourth on her list, but she ended up loving it! I think that since the committee has put so many students into these UWCs I completely trust them to place me  or not place me :frowning: where I should go… Luckily if you don’t rank a college at all they won’t place you there!

People new to our CC: If you didn’t read all of our many prior pages (I don’t blame you if you didn’t :stuck_out_tongue: it would be quite a bit of reading) Some of us exchanged facebook/snapchat/Instagram information, I you would like to connect with any of us just message and can give you that :)

My parents are fine with it; they’re actually very encouraging. When I found out about it and showed them, they were like, well if you can get a scholarship or the money from somewhere, we think it’s perfect for you and would be an amazing experience… And so, yeah. I feel really lucky when I hear about you guys’ parents!

I just wanted mention about Maths and Maths Studies, for the IB, you can do either (or furthere maths if you’re a total maths geek). I’ve had my sister do the IB and they offer it at my school so we’ve had talks from teachers about it etc. However, everyone seems to say that basically, unless you want to do a sciency career, it’s better to just do Maths Studies. It’s meant to be more like maths you’d use in everyday life, and other non-sciency careers. One of my teachers told me about a student who was super at maths, but didn’t really need it so they did maths studies and got a 7 which was much better than just getting say a 5 in Maths. So yeah, Maths Studies isn’t just for people who aren’t good at Maths ;)

About ECs, I think that obviously each college does different ones but they also work differently… Some colleges don’t list all off them on their site, and also what I was told when I visited AC for the British open day is that there are loads of student-led initiatives that won’t be listed online… So yeah, like others have said, if there’s an EC you really want to do, it’s pretty easy to just gather together some people and just set it up :)

Here we are not even asked about our preferences untill the interviews.

@lalarae

volleyballs easy to learn and in my opinion athletically beach is MUCH more strenuous than regular, you’ll just have to relearn the rules

omg gaah lol i’m afraid i don’t have what UWC is looking for
my parents definitely think i don’t :c

@MediDuet for our app we are required to list our preferences, but we can change them at the interview; which means that we aren’t stuck with something we thought we liked and changed our mind a couple months later

@teenagecrime I think as long as you want the program they will see that you are into more than the “fairytale harry potter boarding school castle experience” I believe that is the main reason they need interviews  Its so the people who are serious about the whole program can be placed where they fit and weed out the one who don’t understand it! Yeah, inside a gym you don’t get sand in your face/mouth/eyes/legs/EVERYWHERE
