UWC applicants year 2014

News to all USA Applicants: The application has been pushed to be released on October 1st now. Keep on trekking through the potential questions you may be thinking will be on there, but let’s not let it consume us! We do in fact have lives beyond this! :)

@neeve16, That’s cool. I don’t quite understand how the American system works with all it’s credits etc, but you doing what you did and going to France for a year will definitely enhace your application :stuck_out_tongue: I agree about good teachers too; they really make you love or hate a subject.

@aanpan, Yeah, I started a few days ago, but I haven’t started the actual questions yet… It’s exciting!

And sorry guys in the US, it must be really annoying to have your application come out so late :frowning: Any idea when it closes? Cos in the UK it’s meant to close in November sometime, though last year they extended it to Jan 31st.

Does anyone know any of the old U.S application questions and essay topics?

Hello ! I’m from India and I’m applying to UWC this year as well ! Our national committee hasn’t given out the forms yet either. Pretty excited for this process, hope to talk to some of you :)

I my country the application comes out in October and the deadline is around the middle of January every year.

The same in my country

@wootwhoop hey! Im im from india too! Live in malysia though. Do u know when the applications will be out?

@Randomzzz hey ! So I did talk to UWC in July, they said the Indian forms will be out mid-September,and last year the forms came out September 10th so anytime this month Im guessing :)

@wootwhoop alright thanks mate! :)

You live in malaysia? So jealous of all the food youre getting! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@pashay heard that interviews are around first/second week of jan!!!

Hahahah  are u from india too?

hahaha oh no…im malaysian, sri lankan and british (:

Ohh okay :)

I am willing to be a resource for applicants. My daughter graduated from UWC USA in '13 and my son is a first year at Atlantic College. I have spent considerable time on the US campus and I have been through the application three times with my two kids. Good luck all! It’s definitely worth it!

Hello there!

You guys have all managed to make me feel way under qualified!

Anyways I’m from the USA as well. (I read a few of you lived near Chicago? I live like 30 minutes away from it, by O’hare airport!) My grades aren’t the best and my unweighted GPA is around 3.2 which really sucks but its mostly because of my classes and the level my school teaches at.
I do on the other hand participate in quite a lot of community service. In school I’m in two clubs one being the GSA and the other being HEROES. GSA is simply a gay straight alliance and we just sorta do a few things throughout the year about that so its not that big of a deal but HEROES stands for Helping Everyone Respect Others and Expect Respect and we do loads of things throughout the year like talk to kids in middle and grade school about bullying and host a school wide unity day. I do quite a few things outside of school, but nothing really specific.
So that’s cool and all but I am pretty sure I don’t have the grades to do it and I don’t participate in any sports plus if the thing about them barely ever accepting sophomores is true than I don’t think the odds are in my favor really.

Hi there,

Im from Holland, and I really want to get into UWC! I love this chat, it is so helpful! However, I play the violin, right now Im in a special school for kids talented in music. I practice a couple of hours a day, so I dont really have time to volunteer… You guys think thats a problem? I dont think I will be able to practice the violin in a UWC at all… but I already know I dont want to be a musician in the future, unlike the other kids in my school. Anyway, I love this chat, you guys have been so helpful already!

Thumbs up from Holland, Cleo

@Cleo010, I play the flute and I play the piano. I also don’t plan to become a musician but I would really love to play in an orchestra as a ‘second job’. This is partly why I would like to go to Adriatic College because there I could choose music as an extra curricular activity. But I would be extremely happy at any of the UWCs.

A lot of you have written your ECs and grades and so on so I decided to write mines as well.
I attended the local music school right after I started primary school. I play the flute and the piano and I am in a chambre orchestra at the music school. And I am in the choir at my school. I play badminton for seven years and have been to competitions with some success. I am in the Student Council at my school for 10 years and hoping to become the vice-president this year. I take part in Disaster Recovery (if it is the right word for that) competitions, first aid competitions and an other first aid competition with the Red Cross. For community service I go to clean the forest with local people twice a year and help with the school books at the beggining of the year at my school.

@MediDuet hey! thanks so much for answering! i read that you are from hungary, are you from a big city or the countryside?
i looked some things up on the website of UWC Adriatic, and it says that the music program which you can choose for, will prepare you for a conservatory or music study at a university. does adriatic offer ib? and is there a possibility to do the special music program over there, and for example study law after the two years there and not music at a conservatory or university?
you cant imagine how cool i think this is! talking to people from all over the world! thanks so much to the one who started this thread!
good luck to you all from the netherlands
