Anyone know what the vaccinations you receive on I-Day are?

If you are up to date with the Academy vaccinations you should not receive any on IDAY. You will get the Vaccination form in the report package - it must be completed by your health care provider and then sent back to the Academy prior to IDay.

The key phrase here is you should not receive any on IDAY - things go awry and you could end up like my son and getting them all again! The key to IDAY - expect the unexpected!

some choose to wait until I-Day to get the needed vaccinations since some healthcare providers charge high prices and insurance may not cover all that are needed.

all the usual:
MMR
DPT
Varicella (unless you have positive titers)
Tetanus Booster
Polio / Booster
Hepatitis B and AB.....and if you can, Hep C
Current (within one year) PPD
Menningitis vaccine

not required, but reasonable to add in pneumonia vaccination- one shot is good for 5 years
Flu vaccination will be offered on the yard when the season arrives.

Hepatitis vaccinations are given over a period of time- better to get them started and done now if you can.

For female midshipmen: definately explore getting Gardicil vaccination (protects against cervical CA)..... this is the age/time to get it (the vaccination that is). Ask your GYN

While it is true some vaccinations may be a little costly, most take awhile to "take" .... so in that regard, it is better to go in with antibodies in place (meaning the vaccination is doing what it should) then to be in close quarters and "exposed" waiting for your body to do what it does... that alone should justify the costs, especially as concerns the menningitis vaccination.

For all: Keep a carbon copy of your vaccinations WITH YOU in your pocket on I-Day should there be any questions. If done correctly, you should not require anything additional when you arrive; having the list with you will save unnecessary duplication.....they will poke and prod enough without having to add insult to injury! ;)

ughhh I don't know about ya'll, but doing pushups with a sore arm doesn't sound too appealing

Pay out of pocket and get them done prior jaybee is right, do you want to do pushups with a sore arm while someone is screaming in your ear?

If you are military the back of your med records have copies that they can hand over...

To all future flyers, the best thing as a DW is the fact that we have our own flight surgeons and they assist us as if we were their own family...I will miss that when we leave. Our flight surgeons know the AD and do all the physicals, when DD was bit this fall by a copperhead, he called to check in ( he was never a part of the equation, she was rushed by ambulance to the hospital, but he did do her follow up b4 she could go back to school).

Ok, that's good... looks like I shouldn't be pricked on I-Day then... we'll wait and see! Thanks for the info guys... much appreciated.

Amen Jaybee - I think there's enough other physical stressors w/ Plebe summer & IDay. I'd hate to deal with physical demands of summer along with sore arm and other side effects of vaccinations! Definitely get your shots up to date before IDay and bring all the records!

I don't believe there is a Hep. C vaccine--yet. There is an A and a B, and one company makes available the A and B in a combined form--this is a series of 3 injections. ...but no C vaccine at this time.

Good advice to bring a copy of your shot record but please remember they may not take it and you may get all of your shots again. Be prepared for anything!

My son had a copy of the shot record with him and still got some for a second time. :(

I got all mine, but I don't think anyone gets actually shots on I-day. They test your blood to see if it's resistant. They found out that a couple of mine didn't work and I had to go back a few weeks later to get all of those again. It wasn't too bad. You got out of an hour or so of harrassment and read the paper. While standing of course.
But get them all done just in case.

^^^^He got them all again on IDAY.

Back in my day corpsmen used to joke about when a troublemaker came to sick bay, they would just pull out his immunization record and continue finding shots that he 'needed' until eventually the patient quit making trouble. They seemed to indicate that it worked every time. However, I am sure our modern Navy is more professional than that.

actually, there is one. Availability to the public is the issue.
