That’s amazing. Our school will be out before the 3 week mark so I don’t think they will do this but I took my kids today. So grateful!

Loomis Chaffee just announced an on campus vaccine clinic next week for students under 16
not enough time left in the year for the 2nd dose but the school wanted to make sure that students and families who wanted a first shot before the end of the school year can receive one.

Our dilemma is whether to have kiddo take the second one at school or at home a week later. The school dose falls on the weekend before final exams, and I don’t want her feeling sick while she’s studying. But we leave the country two weeks later, so she wouldn’t be “fully vaccinated” unless she takes it at school. I’m going to take kiddo’s lead on this.

Fortunately we were able to get kiddo2 in today for his first dose
so far, so good!

Same situation at Cate - but CVS will allow you to schedule 2nd dose only! My 15 year old got her 1st at school today and we have an appt at CVS in 3 weeks for the 2nd!

DS’ school sent an email to students for them to sign up for vaccination slots next week. In the 2 minutes it took to ask me if he should and for me to reply, all the slots were gone. It’s not that big of a school! The person in charge has promised to schedule something else next week.

The good news is that with Moderna and Pfizer, most people don’t really feel the effects until the second dose, so a first shot before finals likely wouldn’t have much impact on her studying! But I agree that teens are old enough to decide what works for them

Unfortunately, it would be her second dose.

The second dose is slightly movable - three days one way or another at least - can you manage something by moving it just a bit or are you working with a school fixed schedule? Two of us got knocked out for a day by the second shot (the two women), the two men were ok.

My BS student had their 2nd pfizer this week and just had a slight headache, my husband had no side effects from Pfizer. My son had mild fever for a few hours from Moderna, I felt like I had the flu for 24 hours after Moderna. The side effects are hit or miss but really worth it. I heard MX just had a super spreader and many kids went home (not sure how accurate, came from my BS student). I am sure the school will take any side effects into consideration, they want these kids vaxed.

She is stuck to a specific day. But she has the option to take it once she gets home too, it will just be a week later (I haven’t heard that would be problematic in terms of efficacy). I’m not overly worried as I know it will work out one way or the other!

We had mixed reactions after the second dose in our house as well. My husband was fine, and I felt awful for 24 hours and still not great for another 48.

Even more exciting news : I am getting vaccinated monday! (15) there is a clinic held for you ger students to get their 1st shot.

Actually there are now results of a study in England, there the Pfizer doses are 3 months apart pointing towards even greater efficacy. I wouldn’t worry if she has to wait until she gets home (unless it impacts your international trip/quarantine requirements?). Do you guys have CVS? You can schedule a second dose as early as the day of the first dose.

What will schools do with those students with exemptions? Not allow them return to campus or be excluded from clubs/sports? Now that the C19 emergency seems to be waning, I wonder if the decision to require students to get a vaccine approved only for emergency use will be regarded as hasty and unnecessary.

Medical exemptions? As in kids with allergies will be off the hook. Kids who don’t get vaccinated because they have “religious” exemptions who knows. And I definitely put religious in quotes on purpose because at least in MA it is used by anyone and everyone who is an anti vaxer and there is no religious component required.

Interesting - albeit blanketed - perspective. I’d be curious to know how many parents will be okay with an unvaccinated kid around their kid on campus, regardless of the reason, since the vaccine isn’t 100% protective.

Remember, the current vaccinations don’t prevent Covid - they prevent serious illness from Covid. Since most vaccinated people aren’t continuing to get tested, no one really knows how often “breakthrough” cases occur.
