Hello,

I was recently admitted to Penn's VIPER program and I was wondering what opportunities this program presents other than obtaining both a BSE and a BA from SEAS and CAS (ex. research with a mentor, etc.). Also, does anyone know the work load of the dual degree programs, and if it is feasible to pursue the pre-med track? This program probably isn't as intensive as the other business related double degree programs, but I was wondering how it compares to that of a regular Penn student from SEAS/CAS, as well as that of other colleges (Rice and the Dean's Scholars Program at UT are the other two schools I'm considering). I've also read on the VIPER website that students can apply for a master's degree through a fifth year of study. Could anyone explain this process? Do I have to be readmitted into Penn after completion of both bachelor's degrees?

Penn currently is my top choice school, but the 60K price tag (we didn't get any financial aid and money is a concern) does bother me. Also, could anyone tell me the advantage of graduating from Penn versus other not as prestigious schools (Rice) for a future career in either medicine or engineering?

Thank you so much!

Can anyone provide information about this program or any of the other dual degree programs?

Thanks!!!

Hey! I’m in the Vagelos LSM Dual-Degree (BA Bio from CAS + BS Econ from Wharton) and I was admitted ED this year, so I’ll be a member of the Class of 2016! Not sure about your dual-degree, but I believe you do need to re-apply for the graduate degree…it’s just that they let you start graduate work a year early (senior year of the undergrad experience) thus shaving a year off of how long it takes for your degrees in total.

One of my friends is at Rice pre-med and is enjoying it. Money is a factor to consider! But, remember, Penn is the only school who can give you TWO bachelor’s degrees in the same time everyone else only gets ONE. So, it is a big honor and achievement!

Hey, I’ve applied for VIPER, but I haven’t been able to get any sort of idea of who gets accepted (ECs, international, SATs and if international how well they did on their system).

I really love everything about this degree! I have just been worrying as I don’think I have any particularly amazing accomplishments relevant to the degree apart from high scores in maths and sciences…

Congrats by the way guys! good luck on the next 3/4 years.

And since you both have started, maybe a little insight on the program? I’ve noticed that there is very little about the program on College Confidential
