Valedictorian or not?

Is it just me or is nearly everyone on this site "valedictorian?" I have to imagine there is a lot of bs going on here. I know that I will get plenty of responses saying "that is obvious, genious" but every chance post I read seems to have a valedictorian.

there are tons of vals here, but other poeple that are not. You have to consider the website, what kind of people spend a fairly large amount of time posting and reading threads that have topics such as "How do you know you're a nerd?", "SATs etc etc ect". But I do agree, there has to be some degree of BS in some posts, remember iwannagoivy?

I think that is a good point. The good students are more prone to care, but there can only be so many #1's.

you guys just made be feel so much better lol

Well, consider that there are tens of thousands of high schools in the US alone, that means that there are tens of thousands of valedictorians. Or in my school's case, there are 3 co-valedictorians, so do that math!

Our school had 16 valedictorians last year. Basically, 4.0 unweighted = valedictorian. This year we will have more (I am one hopefully)

I am one of 3 vals... I guess vals love attending this site lol. Btw, being a val, i can tell u its really not that hard. So u got a few more A's then number 4 or 5 or 6... big deal.

Hey sanguine, I know how to do math thanks smartass. I think you can understand the point that I bring up since I am sure you're very good at math as well. Lurking variables aside, we'll say the avg. high school is 200/ class (many much smaller, many much bigger). That would mean that .5% of posters on this site are valedictorian not 80%. And, in the event of a tie, we'll bump the percentage up to 3% since many schools may have covaledictorians.

I think only around half of schools rank, so andrw, cut your percentages in half. Definately seems fishy.

Why not?

There are thousands of high schools and many have MORE than one val...some school had like 44 in WA...

well considering that at least 40 kids who posted on this site went to harvard last year, the presumption that much of this site is composed of valedictorians is not improbable.

I don't know how the hell you got that 80% of this site are valedictorians anyways. To me CC seems to be full of intelligent lazy bums who have low gpa's and high SATs.

why would you lie to a bunch of random anonymous people? i think everyone here is telling the truth. also, if there are that many vals does a person 30/300 (not me) have any chance at a school like harvard?

First of all anrw313, I was not intending to be a smartass, but it appears you read further into my statement than necessary.

My point was that a very large number of valedictorians exist.
I hate to break it to you, but your math assumes that the people who post on cc represent an equal proportional of students with poor grades and good grades. Given that CC is primarily composed of kids who care about their future and strive to succeed in a college of their choice, it is obvious that the majority of students on CC tend to excel in academics. Since class rank reflects academic strength and effort, is it not impossible for so many people on CC to be valedictorians. Like Gobears said, being valedictorian isn't too hard.

Any attempt to calculate the number of valedictorians on CC, and for that matter the number in the world, is inane at best. We can only hope that users are not being trolls and BSing (which again is impossible to prove)

"Hey sanguine, I know how to do math thanks smartass. I think you can understand the point that I bring up since I am sure you're very good at math as well.
that logic that only .5 % are vals is terribly wrong (this is for your many insulting posts on other people's threads.) maybe you should actually get something right before criticizing others.

this is CC, people who are ranked 200/200 dont come on here, people ranked 100/200 dont come here, and very rarely to people ranked 50/200 even come here, so really we are dealing with very skewed statistics. I have one of the lowest ranks on this site (38/449), and it is still in the top 9%, so if you just assume that the top 10% comes to this site, the 10% of the posters (or slightly more) are probably Vals. In addition, most people on this site are in the top 5% so that percentage would rise further.

Lol.. being val doesn't guarantee you anywhere... I wish it did. No, check out those scattergram things on that connection.naviance site that is linked someone on CC. Many valedictorians get rejected from many a places.

God... when did America start trying so hard? 10 yrs ago everything would have been a lot easier...

As for "trolling" on this site- I don't see the point.
Do you want honest recomendations and advice from CC, or just calculate the chances of an imaginary character getting into Harvard?

I have some scattergrams from my school's TCCI system if anyone would like to see them, PM me

The scattergrams show the accepted/rejected/deferred/waitlisted outcomes of students from my school (competitive public school Long Island, NY) over the last 2 years. I have found them very helpful

i was looking at that thing for mmy school too. 2000 was a really off year though apparently. we got like 20 kids into harvard, half of them had gpa's lower than 4.0.
