My friend tried to sign up for an account on here, but hasn't received the confirmation email for some reason. I got some good advice from the chance thread I posted for myself, so I told him to register. Shawn, the title was just to grab attention!

i would try to apply to NYU but the other school are very hard to get into. Also should try Duke or Emory but the other school will be a reach for you. However if your a African American i would then give shot to the other school that you mentioned except for YALE AND HARVARD because you score are not good enough. good luck also do not apply to John Hopkins because if you get in you will have work you a** off to get a B there.

I disagree that your friend has no shot at the Ivys. You have not stated anything else about the applicant such as outside interests or the number of courses he has taken at the local community college.

These threads make me crazy because there really are people attending the Ivys that have not developed a cure for a disease. Your friends admission to an Ivy is more about what he may not have written above. If he is trully an upper tier student it will come out in his application and he should not be deterred by posts on this forum.

I have to say. It would be hard to have enough awards and honors to make up for that SAT score. Tell him to retake it in December, even though it’s after the deadline you can pay an extra fee.

If he gets 2100+ then he can at least have a shot at the Ivys and then NYU will be a safe safety

On his list of schools starting from Harvard and ending at Caltech, he has next to no chance. The SAT/ACT scores are extremely low and he doesn’t have any significant hook to mitigate those deficiencies.
