Valencia Community College transfer(orlando, Fl) (0 Efc) to a Higher tier/Top College?

Hi! I decided to attend Valencia Starting this spring, and my major would be computer science.
I graduated highschool with IB and AP credits, got accepted to UCF,USF,Stetson, pretty much wherever I applied, but I decided that going to Valencia would be cheaper, and I recieved full scholarship into their honors program.
Two years from now (or maybe even less because of all my credits) I want to apply to a top tier school, out of state and transfer. Assuming I keep my gpa a 3.7+, and graduate with an honors diploma what are my chances?

So far, I’ll be a junior front end developer at age 18 my fall semester because I was excepted into a coding boot camp(The Iron Yard) with full scholarship. (14k)I can probably get good internships in companies, or even jobs if I wanted to.

What colleges do you think would be good for me to apply to, in order to have full financial aid met (With scholarships/Grants as a transfer student?)
These are colleges I’m looking at, but if there are good colleges that are still with good reputation a little less selective please do recommend them for meeting financial aid!

Rice University
Columbia
Cornell
Duke
Emory**
Cornell
University of Miami
UCB aka Berkeley
U Michigan
University of Tampa

Any help of CC transfers, or anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Berkeley gives no financial aid to OOS students. You’d have to check on what aid schools give to transfers, and whether they meet full need at all.

You may not be a junior when you transfer if the second school does not accept AP/IB credits.

You may be better off transferring to one of the Florida 4 year schools, which will accept your community college credits and, most likely, all AP/IB credits.

No no not a junior in College, a Junior level Front End Web developer lol

I’m still a freshman at Valencia, our school has sent gotten kids accepted to Yale, Columbia, Harvard which is why I’m having any sort of hope in getting into a Top Tier, with financial need met.

Not to confuse the matter further, but why not look at UF? Are you eligible for Bright Futures?

My son is in CS at UF and it seems like there are numerous opportunities to get involved with projects, etc.

IMHO UF is a great value even without Bright Futures.

Yes, have the highest tier of bright futures, I didn’t want to look at UF, I never applied because I didn’t like the campus as much as I thought,(went on a college visit) and the Gainesville setting I felt like compared to Orlando didn’t have much going for it and I’d be unnecessarily spending money for room and board. I have a friend that goes there, she says she enjoys the people she has met but overall the professors she didn’t enjoy as much.

Maybe I’ll try checking it out again, and have some sleep overs with my other friends who’s currently going there and see if it changes my mind. But for now, if I’m looking at in-state I would look at UCF or UofM, the latter less because it’s so expensive(unless I can get more outside scholarships).

So…why makes you think you would like the schools listed in your OP…other than they hit a prestige button, and some meet full need.

Berkeley doesn’t give need based aid at all to OOS students…so if you need that…remove the school.

Michigan doesn’t guarantee to meet full need for all OOS students. Consider that as well. Plus you are a transfer.

Tampa doesn’t meet full need for all, and neither does University of Miami.

Are you saying you currently have ONE semester of grades from your community college?

I would strongly suggest that you talk to the transfer adviser at Valencia. Tell that person your transfer goal, and see what they suggest.

Remember, if you transfer to a college that does NOT have an articulation agreement with your CC, there is not a guarantee that your credits and courses will transfer.

What about the OTHER Florida publics, the ones where you were accepted already? Would any of them,.with Bright Futures…be a possibility?

Hi! Sorry for the late. I think at the moment I’m looking for a nice college/uni environment and I’m looking into Amherst right now, I believe they meet full financial need if your income is below a certain level. I have an EFC of 0.

And yes at any public university in florida I will not be paying anything at all, because of bright futures and my financial aid combined.

I changed my major to Economics-Finance while being pre med so a non cut throat environment(for premed) and a school that recruiters target or look favorably upon would be great for me. People from my school have transfered there so I think I won’t be that well off credit wise.
It’s still a low acceptance rate so I’m trying for that.

CAN ANYONE SUGGEST other colleges/Uni’s that have an environment similar to Amherst with a good rep?

This link helped me for anyone looking at this thread!

Thanks again

So are you planning to go into finance…or are you planning to go to medical school?

I decided on economics to be my back up plan if I decide med school isn’t for me while it’s something that’s still of interest and practical. I’m interested in so much yet not enough time at all. I can manage taking my pre med courses with this major as well, and I’ll be sending which courses I plan on taking here ahead of time to those colleges so I can see what transfers what not. Amherst for its open curriculum is sooooo appealing to me but with its 14 percent acceptance rate we will see

While you have an 0 EFC on the FAFSA, remember Amherst uses the profile and non custodial profile to take a deeper look at your finances.
