Validating Subjects

Hello everyone,
I will be in the class of 2012 and I was wondering how the process of validating tests works. If you validate a subject, do you have to pick up another class? Is it recommended? Do you get a grade on the test that will affect your GPA? Thanks a lot.

Are you refering to testing such as IB or AP and Honors classes which may exempt you from a course?

New cadets take validating tests the first few weeks of Beast. These tests are used to determine which level of class to assign you to. For instance, you could start in Chem II, instead of Chem I. No grades given for what you validate out of.

As far as I know, AP and IB test scores do not automatically count. My d's IB/AP scores were requested, but I never heard from her what influence they were, if any.

Whether it's recommended or not, is another question. Two sides: 1. The more classes you can validate the more open your schedule will be for higher level classes within your major. 2. If you choose not to validate out of the lower classes (but have the knowledge), then you MAY have a class(es) that you won't have to stress over.

I see. We'll be tested during Beast? Any cadets fall asleep in the exams? ;)
