@Sam-I-Am Way to defend your son Dad. Lol! You are right of course. Your son got in because of his awesomeness. Then, all the kids on here are awesome also and they have big dreams. Please don’t take offence. They are just disappointed.
@tbell13579 Thank you. Feeling blessed already, but could handle some acceptances for sure.lol!
Rejected but expected Congrats to everyone who got in!!
@tingdad I am actually going down for my first visit to Richmond at the Scholars’ weekend; the university is definitely on my list, but I want to see how well that goes. I like everything I’ve heard but I want to get a feel in person. I’m also (surprisingly to most people) struggling to decide if I want the small LAC or big state school experience.
Thanks for the reassurance @ambitionsquared Congrats on your own options! I’m a little frustrated because this is my 5th waitlist, lol, so I guess I was grasping for straws. (Although I am a really awkward interviewer, you still right XD.)
Hopping on the waitlist train as well. Not too disappointed though.
To those rejected and waitlisted, you all have really high stats, but Vandy has already filled more than half of its class through ED1, ED2, and scholarship offers. So the remaining 650 to 700 spots got to become super competitive with everyone is almost perfect in his/her own right. My D with the stats similar to many of RD’s rejected posted above got accepted in ED1 which has higher rate of acceptance. Vandy was her dream school, and if she had not got in, then she would apply some ivy schools. I felt many of you if apply ED, you would have got in already, so don’t feel bad.
Today, I told my daughter that she made a great decision to apply ED, or mostly like she would not be in. Like the song says “if you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it.”
S was ACCEPTED - somewhat surprised but excited, and now has to decide between Emory and Vandy, and whatever might happen in the next two days :-/
His stats: 34 ACT (35SS), 3.8UW, some Varsity sports and other ECs, Eagle Scout + Scouting leadership staff, great rec letters.
WL at WashU, Denied at NW, but in at Vandy, Emory, UT Austin-CNS, TAMU Honors and Trinity Univ.
Congrats to all of you who got accepted and good luck to the WL, and those that didn’t - hang in - you will find your place!
Was pretty surprised to get waitlisted, but I have a full scholarship waiting at my first choice school, so it’s no skin off my back. It felt really good to decline that waitlist spot
Rejected!!! Who cares?! Already got into one of my top choices. Congratulations to you all who got into Vanderbilt - your dream school!
I am a current sophomore at Vandy and my lil bro got denied today. I want you to understand the US news rankings are extremely important to the schools in order to elevate the level of future applications. Vandy, unfortunately, has read into this and uses the ED1 and ED2 to minimize acceptance levels. They also take huge transfer classes, and in doing so keep key features such as first year acceptance low in order to increase their rank. Although strategic, it is absolutely despicable in my opinion, and I really wish all of you that are more than qualified to have gotten in, to have gotten in, rather than be screwed by this fucked system. Best of luck to all as I really hope you find your fit! For those of you set on Vandy, apply as a transfer; you will get in.
Waitlisted with a 36, 4.4 W/4.0 W, tons of ECs with leadership, etc etc. I guess I just wasn’t exactly what they were looking for and was a pretty upset at first, but I’ve come to terms with the news by now!
To everyone who got waitlisted or rejected… don’t be too disheartened by the crapshoot that is college admissions! People who get accepted at Vandy have gotten waitlisted other so-called “lesser” institutions, and people waitlisted at Vandy get accepted to Ivies and beyond! I’ve learned to not take any of the decisions too much to heart-- just last week I was waitlisted at Emory but accepted to Rice! It’s all so random and such a draw of the hat because of so many qualified applicants!
Good luck to everyone with their upcoming decisions and with all things college!
bless the financial aid it’s so much better than any other schools i’ve gotten so far
also, does anyone know if their $5000 national merit scholarship stacks on top of financial aid, is applied to loans first, or reduces grants?
@scarletwitchx - NMF removes work study and then reduces grants.
@mogmm17 - Sorry to hear that. What are your other choices?
D (legacy) was waitlisted. She declined the spot as she has already been accepted to her top choice school. I won’t be very receptive when Vandy hits me up for $ next year.
S was rejected - 34 ACT, 4.02, excellent recommendations, diverse extracurriculars, weak on volunteering. No interview.
He had already accepted scholarship and spot in Fellows program from first choice school after realizing Vandy wasn’t the right fit for him, so he’s more just stung by getting a rejection than disappointed. I think a little rejection now and then is good for the soul.
Congratulations to all admitted! It is a beautiful school!
@srk2017 : They said they got into Rice! They are going to be more than fine if they want to go to a selective private.
Accepted!! Intl student from Mexico 1500 SAT and 4.0 GPA (UW). With a 65k scholarship
Congrats to @pmegmxn and to all those that got in! Good luck to those on the WL and those moving forward at different schools! It is more important WHAT you do while in school than WHERE you go to school.
D was waitlisted at a couple of reach schools very stressful. @HaydenG what major did you apply to at Vandy?
