D was accepted. Plain vanilla STEM girl from NY. Unweighted GPA 4.02, ACT 35. 760 Chem SAT II, 750 Bio SAT II…
Lots of interesting extra curricular stuff.
Having read many of the posts in this thread, you kids worked incredibly hard. You have achievements to show for all of that hard work. I’m sure your parents are all really proud of you. It’s more important that you be proud of yourselves. Please remind yourselves that success doesn’t come from the coincidence of being the particular applicant that Vandy was looking for to round out their incoming class. Success comes from bringing it every day, giving it your all. You all showed that you can do that by getting to the level of being qualified for consideration at these top schools. Keep being yourselves, keep bringing it, and remember to have some fun along the way.
Congrats to those admitted. To those who are waitlisted and those who are not, you will do amazing things whether it’s at Vandy or someplace else. 95% of success comes from keeping at it. 5% is dumb luck. Keep at it, be bold, follow your bliss. You’re an amazing group of kids. I wish you all good luck, even though you don’t need it. You’re all making your own luck and that’s the best kind to have.
@Puppylove1 Very, very well said.
@snicks1234 Good luck to you!
@snicks1234 and @northwesty and @anyone else who heard back from Georgetown. Did you heard back in the last couple of days or was it early action? I’m not home and am wondering if the letters were delivered??? Please help- thanks!
Rejected. 32 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.32 W. I’ve gotten into into Northeastern so far however, and Vandy wasn’t a top choice for me. Congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to everyone waitlisted, it seems like they’ve waitlisted a lot of good candidates so they can get a really low acceptance rate or something.
is it true that Vanderbilt waitlisted the people whom they thought would go to an ivy?
@Jibmonster I got mine 2 days ago, most got them 2 days ago or yesterday… if you got in, you got a phone call by now by an alumni
I was waitlisted by vandy but accepted to any ivy so yes.
Many of my friends with perfect stats experienced similar results so I think they value your perceived interest quite highly. Just a theory though.
@hungrihippo, Vandy let my RD applicant in early with a scholarship and a 35 ACT, 3.98 unweighted GPA, so they don’t waitlist all the kids with Ivy potential.
waitlisted, but accepted to harvard:)
@Sam-I-Am yeah I understand I was just nervous because for my school, my stats are above the average for Vanderbilt and I had a letter of rec from a family member at Vanderbilt so I was told I had a very solid chance of getting in with my grades alone, and with the help of the rec, but kids from my school w lower stats got into Vanderbilt and I got waitlist… just me being nervous! but I know its a top school so im not too discouraged!
@hungrihippo, I have read that being waitlisted at WashU and Northwestern seems very common this year as well. There are posts up suggesting that offers on various waitlists are way up this year (I don’t know if that is true). However, I think the post, above, suggesting that 8% or more of the Vandy, '21 class may be accepted off the WL should give those that want to accept a spot on the Vandy WL some hope. I hope that is a true number.
S rejected. ACT 33 / 4.0 UW / 10 AP / Eagle Scout. S disappointed, but waiting on Ivy day for last round.
Waitlisted with 2330 sat and double 800 subject tests. Goes to show that Vandy doesn’t solely care about test scores like some suggest. Guess I wasn’t what they were looking for this year, but very excited about my other options (Rice, Duke, NU, UCLA). I hope those of you that attend vandy love your experience; it is a phenomenal school!
Waitlisted also. Like others, I had perfect stats-- 36, 800s math 2 and chem, but I understand that Vandy was looking for something else. I wonder if my interview was a bad part of my app? It lasted literally 15 minutes and the lady zoomed out in a rush.
@PeregrineFlute I don’t think the interview matters much. I didn’t interview for Rice or Duke, but got great merit for the former and a likely for the latter. I also had my worst interview with Northwestern, but that still ended up working out. Besides, it seems like you’ve already got some really great options (Virginia, Rice etc). I’m sure you’ll end up with some other awesome results on Ivy day with those stats.
@PeregrineFlute : S did not have an interview but hot in. Noticed you are a Richmond science scholar, same as my S. Do you plan to attend Richmond?
@Jibmonster yes. Got the letter in the mail Monday. Had .67 cent postage. In the Georgetown thread they figured out if .46 cent postage then waitlisted or denied. If .67 cent then accepted. Turns out they are right.
