Do you know by any chance how big legacy plays a role in admissions?
@harry133 Nice of you to write. There are two additional residential colleges opening in the fall, are there not? Won’t this change the scenario you’ve described a bit? Thank you and stay safe.
It did open and will open new one buttttt you should know that over 60% of students dont get in even with that
First of all, if u are a first year, you are automatically assigned to commons (first year students campus). There are 10 halls and it is completely random. I was assigned to Gillette which is the worst, but there are not big difference anyway so it should not be a problem.
After your first year, you get to apply to residential colleges and it is completely random for first tier. They do the lottery and whoever is lucky gets in. Then you move onto next tier and it based on seniority. I would say other dorms are fine but it is smaller and dirty a bit. Moreover u have share a room. First tier is like 1000000 times better.
Great question. Based on what I saw, especially at Vandy, legacy is huge. A lot of my friends at vandy have their siblings go to vandy
@harry133
Did you apply for aid at Vanderbilt? If so, do you receive an email from the US Department of Education about a FAFSA correction before your acceptance and/or when financial aid is processed annually?
If I have an uncle who went there for graduate school and a cousin who is currently enrolled should that help me out?
I did not
it really depends on who they are/ what they have done to contribute to the school. The schools don’t really take into account distant family members when considering legacies. A legacy is usually an immediate family member, at least that’s how it is for the Ivies.
Probably not
My D auditioned and applied as a Vocal Performance major at Blair. Someone she knows received notice they were accepted to Vandy (at Blair). That was last Thursday. My daughter still has not heard an acceptance or rejection. Any other Blair School of Music applicants on this thread? Have you gotten your decisions?
Unfortunately, they would not be considered legacies for admission purposes. Good luck!
I don’t think it would help but at the admissions session we were told aunts and uncles do count as legacy (graduate school also counts) and the Common App asked to put the name, year and degree.
Guys
Finally decisions are still coming out today at 5pm Nashville time?
Shouldn’t we have heard something by now? That’s in a few minutes
Any word if it’s out?
I don’t see any update. I don’t think it’s today.
Last year it was the 27th (day before ivy day) so I think it will be the 25th this year.
@KeepCalmBeHappy that is gonna make me feel terrible going into ivy day LOL
