UCLA = match, but SAT are kind of low.

what about Vandy, Duke, Stanford, UPenn, Dartmouth? Anyone?

With not having taken AP Calc until your senior year, and with somewhat low SAT scores, I would say Stanford, Duke, and UPenn are all high reaches. Dartmouth will also be competitive. I don't know anything about Vandy. What do you plan to study in college?

That's assuring lol. I didn't think not taking AP Calc until senior year was that big of a downside unless I'm planning to major in something math related, which I'm not.

I plan to major in Psychology, or something law related (political sci)

Vandy- 60% shot
Duke- 40% shot
Stanford- 20% shot
UPenn- 40% shot
Dartmouth- 30% shot

Higher scores would really help with these schools.

thanks. what would be a good amount to improve those scores by in order to have a decent chance at most of those schools, (with regards to the fact that getting a 2400 will be psychically impossible for me haha)

I went to stanford in Business Administration and I don't even have a top elite agenda like that.

Calc matters at these schools no matter what your major will be.

You need to bring up your SATs for any real chance at the ivies. You are significantly below median and when you look at the numbers, keep in mind 40% are hooked. Median is about 2200 and for the unhooked close to 2300.

Professional, did they start that major just for you?

Slipper is wrong. Stanford's admit rate is going to be 5% RD round and you do not have 4 times the shot of the average applicant. Your profile is below average at Stanford, I'd say you have a 2% shot there at best. You should really aim for 750's in each section if possible, higher if you can for a better shot. UPenn is a pretty big reach, I'd say you have about a 7% shot there. Dartmouth maybe a 10% shot, Duke a 15% shot, Vandy around 30%, and UCLA I don't know well enough to comment on.

Penn is not more selective than Dartmouth and Duke.

Anyway I would say a 2250-2300 to have a real shot at these schools.

2008 admission rates: Dartmouth 13.7% (<a href="http://www.dartmouth.edu/%7Eoir/pdfs/CDS2008_2009.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.dartmouth.edu/~oir/pdfs/CDS2008_2009.pdf</a>), Duke 20.6% (<a href="https://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/applying/who_2012profile.html%5B/url%5D">https://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/applying/who_2012profile.html</a>), Penn 16.9% (Penn: Facts and Figures). Penn is definitely more selective than Duke, you truly are an idiot if you don't agree. Penn is like Yale but with twice as many students, which is why it's have as selective. The applicant pool is more self-selective, I have had many friends who have gotten into Dartmouth and rejected Penn. Penn is harder to get into.

You want a real shot at these schools you need to aim for however high you can possibly get. Every little bit counts.

SAT score is quite low. UCLA seems like a match, but not a sure-thing. However, they like high SATII scores so you have a good shot.

Penn has seen application decreases for the last couple of years while Duke and Dartmouth have shot up. Dartmouth and Duke have higher average stats, Dartmouth has a much lower acceptance rate. There is nothing to base your argument. Penn isn;t more self-selective than the other two, that's totally bogus. If anything, Dartmouth, the most LAC like school is the most self selective.

Vanderbilt - a possibility!
Duke -reach
Stanford -VERY high reach
UCLA - match

how is UCLA a match? She is out of state and even if she were in-state it would still be a slight reach because of SAT scores. Everywhere else reach.

Slipper I want to see some proof for your assertions. I have always known Penn to be the most selective of the three, that's why it's constantly ranked higher, that's why I know kids who haven't gotten in there but have at other schools. Let's see it.

Umm acceptance rate, SAT stats, revealed preference, acceptance rate, etc. Penn's app numbers have been decreasing while Dartmouth/Duke have skyrocketed the last couple years. All are publicly available. Selectivity is only one part of USNEWS ranks. Dartmouth particularly does better. Anecdotal evidence is meaningless. Depends on school preferences for different regions (Penn is very tough in New York, Dartmouth in New England, etc) and other institutional needs.

Whats considered a high SAT for UCLA, 2100+? or higher???

Slipper, Penn is ranked 6th and Dartmouth 11th by USNews. Last year Penn was ranked 5th, Dartmouth wasn't in the top 10. QS Top Universities, the other main rankings, ranked Penn 11th in 2008, 14th in 2007 (in the world), while Dartmouth was 54th in 2008 and 71st in 2007. There's no comparison.
