Wait guys so I was thinking about how even with ED Vanderbilt only takes about 23.5% of ED applicants so do you think there’s a good amount of people that fall under the stats that apply or how does that work? Bc I would think there’s more than 23.5% of applicants that are vandy material all around
That’s probably the first good question that someone has asked since this thread started. I cautiously assume that of the academic applicants who apply, the stats are generally better. That is, excluding the athletes who apply early decision, the competition is better. If you look at the accepted ED stats and compare them to the regular stats, the ED ones are better. But I suppose that’s slightly offset by the fact that they allow more people in early than regular as a reward of sorts for dedicating to Vandy. I have no idea what percentage are actually qualified (as in who meets the average ACT, GPA, etc.), but I would guess that it far exceeds 23.5%. Besides, we can probably expect the rate to be more like 20-22% this year I think. Northwestern, a comparable school, got about 800 more ED applicants and their acceptance rate dropped a couple of percentage points. Just remember that most of us are well-qualified, but not all of us will get in. It’s out of our control now, so just bask in the unknown while there’s still a chance.
@82116a03 that’s scary to think about, but also I understand that’s just the way it is. I feel like there’s also probably a good amount of applicants that are below in stats that apply ED in hopes of upping their chances, but I’m sure that’s not all of it. The comparison to northwestern is really interesting.
No one with my stats has ever been rejected ED from my high school, yet usually 3-5 kids apply ed, but this year 11 applied ED, which makes the whole process much more nervewracking for me personally.
@fockey999 wow thats insane, im the only person in my school applying ED1 (about 530 kids in my class) except i know of a girl applying EDII, (though I don’t believe her stats are the same as mine I think they’re a bit lower)
Isn’t the 23.5% for both ED1 and ED2? And I’ve heard that more people are accepted in ED1 so is the actual rate a little higher than that?
@kdswg5 that’s also true!
@kdswg5 yes that is true. It’s impossible to say what the actual percentage is for ED1, but I have heard that the EDII acceptance rate is closer to the regular rate. Thus, it’s highly likely that the ED1 rate is somewhere around 30-35%
@kdswg5 theres like 450 kids in my grade and somehow 11 decided on vanderbilt
@squarerootof42 watch us be from the same school lol!
There’s only one other person from my school applying ED and we’ve applied to different schools within Vandy. They took 4 kids from my school last year. Three were ED and one was regular so hopefully that’s a good sign
Im so scared. Did anyone here do their summer program?
i think i’m the only one applying from my school. I’ve never heard of anyone from my school going to vandy or even applying there
yeah i’m the only one applying ED from my school as well. vandy takes one kid from my school each year so… fingers crossed!
@82116a03 haha I’m one of the ppl with slightly lower stats
@alexm2017 yes! I did WAVU starting in 7th grade and VSA 3 years!!
My school has never sent anyone to a top 20 university, so that is slightly worrying. Though, my ACT is the highest my school has ever had, so I imagine that plays a large part as to why.
that’s got to help! @sumuzu
The only thing that could possible help me cope with this anxiety is Jeni’s, but alas, my state has none
Nobody from my school has ever gone to Vanderbilt but I don’t believe people typically apply or even know much about the school surprisingly
No one else from my school applied. I know a girl who says that it’s her top choice and has been saying it since freshman year but she “didn’t want to feel restricted” by ED. In reality, I think she just didn’t want to bother with the application.
ED is a commitment and you have to do your research before agreeing to it. I think part of the reason the admit rate is higher for ED is that those who apply ED have done their research, where regular decision likely gets a good amount of last minute applications from those who aren’t qualified but figure “why not try?”
