Vanderbilt EDI 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

How did everyone’s interview go?

I have a question about superscoring. The SAT is superscored but the composite ACT is not, is that correct? It seems that students taking the ACT are at a major disadvantage. Do they post the highest subject subscores?

It’s true that the ACT is not superscored.

As an ACT user, I agree that it feels like a disadvantage. In some instances, it is. However, the SAT has more penalties for guessing, which can make getting a high score more difficult. That’s where I think they might be coming from with that policy.

I have found on certain websites postings of the subscores, like College Board’s Big Future and other college websites, and I’m sure you could find them somewhere on Vandy’s website. Most are somewhere around the composite numbers anyway. Sorry I can’t be much assitance with that part!

Vanderbilt no longer notifies only with mail. they created a new portal that you can check your application status and admission decision on.

Vandy just emailed me tonight saying that the decisions will be online before Dec 15. Hopefully they will be up sooner!

Did everyone get the same email tonight that states your ED1 application is complete and ready for review? Also decisions will be ready by December 15?

I got the same email. Does this mean decisions could be posted before dec 15th?

I got the email as well! I’m hoping that’s what “by December 15th” will entail. The earlier the better :)

Last year, my sister found out she was accepted by a letter only! There was nothing posted on her “myappVU” page or anything! We sat by the mailbox for days waiting for the letter!! And they all come in the standard envelope size for ED1 (Unlike regular decision, where the big envelope means accepted!!). We thought the small envelope meant disappointing news, but we were wrong!! I applied ED1 this year… Waiting nervously for the next 14 days!!!

Good luck to all of you!

Really hoping the BY December 15th part means we’ll find out beforehand. My friend was supposed to find out if she got accepted to Elon on Saturday but found out instead on Wednesday that she got accepted! Maybe Vandy will do the same?

AHHH i just want to know

Last year the letters went out on the 11th. My daughter got hers on 12/12/12 : ) so maybe as early as that?

moonpie

my sister had the same experience! we saw the blog post that letters had been mailed on dec. 11th and she got it on the 12th!

everyone keep checking the admissions blog-- she always writes a post on the day that early decision letters are mailed

I am getting so nervous! I think they will be online around the 12th. Since decisions are electronic it will take away the stress of checking the mailbox!

Kali… Hoping you have the same results! My girls LOVE being there together, and even have a class together! And even though we are local…it’s no suitcase college. Mine haven’t been home all semester (except for break over thanksgiving) they LOVE it there, and they are surrounded by the coolest people, and have had some amazing opportunities. They are the only recent grads from their high school, so it’s been a whole new world

I’m guessing that the emails everyone received had to do with the HS’s sending updated quarterly grades, so my S’s app is fully complete. Just a guess though!

@lalala777- The counselor said it probably showed up by error … They removed it from my MyAppVU… He said they’ll notify on the Dec 15th week …

moonpie… thank you so much for the encouraging words! Vandy has been my dream for as long as I can remember. I cannot wait for Dec 15th, but at the same time I am TERRIFIED.

Does anyone have a better idea of when decisions will be posted after that email the other day? Are we still thinking definitely on the 15th?

I think we could receive our letters before the 15th, but the decision will most likely be online on the 15th. For the past three years, Vandy’s OUA has gotten the letters mailed on the 10th, the 11th, and the 13th of December. Since this year we are notified online as well (as opposed to just in the mail), they will most likely post it in our portals on the 15th. Just a guess though!

I might just wait for the letter, to be honest. I’m absolutely terrified that I won’t get in, and if I get rejected, I’d rather open a letter and read it than see “DENIED” on my computer screen.
