Are ya’ll seeing responses getting them right now or you’re just checking your portal late?
You could see your decision as early as 6pm EST in the portal
My application was submitted before the deadline, but my HS transcript was emailed to them shortly after. It took a lot of effort to arrange it with my overseas HS to have them email it to Vandy. It’s not something that schools in my country of birth normally do.
I shouldn’t have bothered with Vandy.
Their Admission Counselor sent me a literally 150-word paragraph (before I submitted my application), urging me to reconsider applying due to my non-trad status. One of her lines (verbatim):
“I want to urge you to think very hard about the colleges and universities you are considering applying to, not just in terms of what they can offer you academically, but also in terms of the best fit for you at your stage in life.”
I’ve never seen anything like this before.
My stats if anyone is curious:
3.95 C.College GPA, Honors Program, 65 credits, President’s list, etc.–all while working full-time.
Perfect TOEFL test score
Great LORs (from a department chair, a high-ranking college administrator, etc)
Decent ECs for someone in my situation
Solid essay–per my English professor anyway
First-gen student, immigrant (moved across the globe by myself when I was a teenager), naturalized US citizen.
Challenges (apart from surviving on my own in a foreign country since a very young age): Had to part with the idea of college for a while and work 2-3 jobs for years to support a sick parent financially.
I gotta admit: It kinda hurts. I like Vandy. Despite its notorious ~30% transfer acceptance rate, I didn’t even make it to the wait list. I don’t know how I could have possibly made it any better. Plenty of accepted folks from this thread have significantly lower stats.
I would’ve utilized Vandy’s vast resources to the max potential to pull my family out of poverty and then give back to the community. Oh well.
Note to future non-trad applicants: Be conservative in your expectations.
Congrats to those accepted.
Stats legit mean nothing. People need to stop putting up their stats because it creates an unhealthy and competitive environment. While yes, the nature of college admissions is quite competitive, why add unnecessary stress to yourself and other people by trying to flex through your stats? Even “chance me” stats are kinda dumb like none of us have any say in the college admissions process so why even ask our opinion.
We have no idea what the transfer pool looked like - so how can we say what the admit % was? Moreover, the majority of the people who applied are not on this thread so theres no real way of knowing.
Everyone here is amazing, regardless of acceptance/denial/waitlisted.
@ryd123 Seeing people post their stats and profile in previous years on older transfer threads significantly helped me with deciding where to apply. Considering the limited resources available for transfers, it helped to get an idea of what schools are looking for in transfer students, which saved me a lot of time and money. I highly doubt anyone here is anonymously “flexing” their profiles. It simply helps future applicants get a feeling regarding where they stand. While there are outliers, there’s typically consistency stats-wise when it comes to stats and highly competitive schools.I respect your opinion, but I just wanted to offer a different perspective
If you submitted your application before March 15th and haven’t received a decision, then does that mean that the chances of acceptance is quite low? And does anyone know when the second wave is usually?
Thanks!
for those of you who were accepted, are any of you rising juniors?

Yes, they do. Look at scatter plots of admitted students across elites. Most of the data points are heavily concentrated in the top right corner (high GPA, high test scores). Certainly, other factors (like essay, personal story, and recs) may play a more important role when an occasional applicant has a discrepant profile (e.g., a low GPA but a very talented essay); but when there is a trend, it says something, for it is not common to see such antinomic applicants in large numbers.

It’s a sufficient sample regardless.

Wasn’t flexing at all: Merely sharing the kind of information that I myself find helpful when reading about other people’s experience. Why assume the worst about someone you don’t know?
Can anyone provide some information on what housing is like for transfer students? Is it random or do we have to search for our own roommates?
@OwlOfAthena I am sorry. I am also a nontraditional student with a very highly unusual background. I have no idea what this means for me. I am proud of your accomplishments and everything you have done. I would just keep doing what you are doing. Do it because you love it regardless of what these schools think about you.
For those waiting for the 2nd wave, absolutely you have a chance.
Although my second daughter was admitted to Vanderbilt yesterday, my first daughter was admitted in the 2nd wave (May 8) 2 years ago.
It was absolutely, positively worth the wait. She simply cannot believe the resume she’s building at Vanderbilt.
Hang in there!
@bloomfield88 congrats to both your daughters! and thank you for this info i have some hope restored for those of us still waiting!
ACCEPTED!! checked at 5:30pm last night and saw nothing, so I didn’t find out they were out until I checked on here.
Congratulations!
Mine’s still not there?
Very exciting @transferapplicant29928
has anyone gotten their financial aid?
Nope, but I did just receive my transfer credit evaluation.
I am but not sure how many of my credits will transfer to vandy @doingitforme
@Faexpopuli @OwlOfAthena thank you both for letting me know!
@OwlOfAthena I’m also non-traditional and I know the don’t usually accept us but I felt like applying anyway just to see what happens. Looking at what you’ve been through/accomplished, you have the skills to be successful wherever you end up going.
@OwlOfAthena you were right. Looking at their transfer FAQ they are very blunt about how they view nontradtional students. I don’t even expect to get in now. But I’ve applied to lots of good schools. I don’t take it personal since it is what it is.
