also just realized there are two vandy forums
hey guys wow Iām so happy to see so many new comment in this thread.
I apologize that i have been off from this forum for a few weeks. I was a little depressed seeing so many awesome students with outstanding extracurriculars and stat. I have to admit that comparing with people just by the profile can really throw me off.
@RichMilwuakee08 i feel the same with you. Are you transferring?
i think that a GPA wonāt really affect as much as your personal statement. You have a fairly good standing at your current school, and your ACT is great, and that should be enough to put you to the next stage for considering admission.
I got really anxious and depressed when comparing with people just by stat. Take a deep breath. Believe in yourself The admission office will take all the aspects of your application into consideration. Good luck!
I think I am the only international student here hahah. The admission process should be more rigorous for me but I really love Vandy. I think I will regret if I donāt give it a shot.
Thank you guys for all the comments!
@dwl00 u are exceptional - have confidence. if it makes u feel any better, vandy is filled with international students (surprising because it is in tennessee but they take a lot of asian international students).YOU WILL BE FINEEEE have confidence.
Hey, guys, Iām also applying to transfer! My question is primarily targeted to accepted transfers from last year - how important are SAT/ACT scores? I scored a 30 and am wondering if itās worth retaking or not.
Hey everyone! Iām a bit interested in transferring and I have a solid idea of what program Iād like to pursue at Vandy that my current school lacks, but I had a question about my current courseload. I go to a top-ranked school in California and I never had the intention of transferring until later in this semester. For this reason, most of my courses this semester are just GE courses because I wanted to knock them out so I could pursue my previous majorās upper division classes earlier. So, my schedule looks a bit haphazard I guess? But, my extracurriculars and essays firmly back up my reasons for transferring and the academic program that Vanderbilt offers that my current school does not. I was just a bit curious about how this may appear to admissions? Iām taking a more specialized courseload this upcoming semester in order to back up my reasons for transferring.
For context, I was (am? Haha) an engineering major at my current school but I want to apply to Vandyās humanities science major. This semester I took a history class, calculus 1, a writing seminar, a class on race and class, and an intro to my major class. Iāve realized my interests lie in the social sciences and humanities, but Iām not sure if freshman taking GEās is accounted for in the evaluation of our courseload
Given your intended switch out of engineering to humanities, you should be taking non-engineering courses. No reason to waste money and your valuable time taking even one more engineering course if you donāt like it.
It is also more believable to any admissions department that you are serious about changing your major and adds credibility to your intention to transfer.
Good luck!
@Chief134 My daughter was accepted last year with 1330 SAT , so if you have a very strong GPA I wouldnāt worry about you ACT score. Best of luck to you
Iād appreciate any input on applying. Iām not sure if I screwed my shot and should wait till next year as Iām currently a freshman applying for entry sophomore year. I ended up with a pretty low GPA (3.75) @ a t50 public school and my ACT is a 35. Does Vanderbilt place a lot of consideration on mid-semester reports? Is it worth it to even apply this year for me? I have some decent extra-curriculars but nothing amazing as Iāve just been trying to adjust.
@Patels23 i suggest that you apply this year , 80% of Vanderbilt transfers are sophomores. Vanderbilt prefer sophomore transfer vs junior, unlike other schools, and your stats are good. Best of luck to you
@heyigotnoclue hey thank you so much for your support! Itās been a while. WHatās going on ?
I have decided not to transfer 2 months ago. It was a hard decision but a good one to be honest. Best luck with your application!
@dwl00 aww that is too bad but I am sure you have good reasons.
things have been meh. been through some medical things again so its been kinda a struggle but staying positive. STAY IN TOUCH!
Anyone else nearly finished with the application process and relieved to have this almost over with? Iāve been double and triple checking every tab, doc and page of my Common App daily and still feel as if I might overlook something important.
For people who have submitted, how long did it take to get an email to set up your portal? I submitted mine 6 days ago and havenāt gotten any word from Vandy get. Perhaps itās because of spring break or the coronavirus shutting down school?
@herewegooo I got mine the day after I submitted my application which was the 16th, I think you should be fine unless you still have not gotten it but I seriously doubt that.
I transferred two years ago and had a 1340 SAT, but a 4.0 GPA. I tailored my entire personal statement to what Vanderbilt was looking for. I think Vandy cares a lot about fit rather than standardized testing statistics. I never imagined getting into Vandy so u all have hope. I wish the best for you all and hopefully will see many of you in the fall.
I am thinking of transferring to Vanderbiltās school of peabody next year. Does anyone know what Vanderbilt looks for in a trasnfer applicant so that I could include them into my essay next year.
Hi, I applied for transfer as well. Can anyone speak to the social scene/ Greek life at Vanderbilt?
