Rejected from Penn just now, waitlisted at Duke and UCLA - only acceptance so far is UCSD which I’d already gotten into out of HS. Really praying Vandy pulls through! It’s far and above my top school…
I’m so sorry I’m new to cc lol and I don’t know how to PM ?
Hey guys, current Vanderbilt Student here. I transferred in last year. First off, I want to say I empathize with y’alls frustration around the off-campus housing mandate. That sucks and is so unfair. With that said, I think there may be one additional point as to why Vanderbilt made the decision it did. As many of you have said, there is a lot of construction going on around campus, primarily with new dorms. The school hasn’t told us what the status of those projects are but the dorm that was supposed to open for the fall of 2020 was pretty close to done. Unless the project was cancelled right after we left campus, it might still get finished in time.
An alternate issue is also one of the reasons Vandy takes as many transfers as it does—to fill housing spots for students studying abroad or doing other off-campus learning. Due to the pandemic, study abroad opportunities will likely be completely cancelled. This means if Vanderbilt reopens for in-person classes in the fall, all students will be on campus, presumably in dorm spots they already filled. If the new dorms aren’t finished this problem would obviously be exacerbated.
I’m not saying Vanderbilt’s solution isn’t a sucky one, it is. They should do more to make sure the transfer community feels integrated and a part of campus. Yet, to be fair to the school, their alternative could have been to not accept transfer students for this year—an obviously much suckier decision. Still, I would recommend appealing this decision to OHARE. It’s likely some kids won’t be able to come back in the fall and transfers may be able to take those housing spots. There are a lot of transfers that go to Vandy that would not have wanted to be in your situation and will pull for you. I’m rooting for you guys and hopefully will meet some of y’all this fall!
OMG I never thought I would actually get to post an acceptance w/ my stats on this thread but here it goes! Also I just found out I was accepted today even tho they came out yesterday after getting an email about my credits LOL
Accepted Econ major, rising junior, Asian female
Small unranked LAC, 3.89 GPA
letter of recs from 2 teachers I was decently close with, 1 from my boss
Extracurriculars: college athlete, worked 3 jobs simultaneously
ACT 32
HS GPA: trash, I had like 2Cs and a ton of Bs, couple of As now and then but all honors/ap classes
Has Vandy given out any rejections yet? I’m starting to worry about not having heard back yet
Rly tempted to withdraw my app and go to Emory. History major
wait guys can someone pm me the groupme link I paid my matriculation fee more than a week ago lmao
I went to SMU this past year got a 3.94/4.0 for the two semesters. Had a 1510 SAT (790 Math, 720 Verbal). I’m not sure off the top of my head what my HS GPA was, but it was just average. I think that the SAT and college performance def helped me since I know that if I just had HS grades in I wouldn’t have received an acceptance.
What econ classes have you taken so far?
Your stats are fairly similar to mine I think; I have a 4.0 with 38 credits from last summer until now, with 16 Honors credits. 1530 SAT and also an average HS gpa, 3.6UW 4.1W. Perhaps the difference is that I’m trying to transfer from a community college? I’ve tried to stay engaged with a lot of leadership roles on campus though.
I’ve taken Macro and Micro economics so far.
Is there currently a GroupMe for transfer students? I have a few questions about off-campus housing.
Could someone send me the link for the transfer groupme ?
@eeaadd22 could you please email me the groupme information?
thanks
I declined my offer of admission so one of yall donkeys can get off the waitlist. Cheers!
Did everyone who heard back submit their stuff by March 15th? I’m confused about what they meant by priority deadline?
@ketchup23 March 15th was their official application due date. Everyone who submitted by this deadline is considered first. But if you missed this deadline and submitted afterward you still have a shot. They just turn into “rolling admissions” after March 15th. That’s how my counselor explained it to me.
But I think the pandemic messed up their usual flow and what not so I believe there are still people who submitted priority and haven’t heard back.
Should I notify Vanderbilt of an award I recently won at my CC? I am still awaiting my decision.
I submitted by March 15th deadline and have not heard back.
Anyone talked to admissions about when the next wave will come out?
Tried but my admissions counselor is completely unhelpful and really pretty rude.
Who is your admission counselor
