Vanderbilt Student's Transfer Chances

I don’t know about transfer admission… sorry

I applied to both Rice and Vanderbilt. Why do you want to leave Vanderbilt?

Thanks and good luck!

Rice is 10,000 dollars cheaper than Vanderbilt. If I have to pay full price at Vandy, Rice will save me 30,000 over 3 years. I don’t find Vanderbilt as academically stimulating as I had hoped for. However, the social scene here is VERY fun.

its actually about 15,000 isnt it? since rice is 45 full and vandy is around 58- 59?

and chance threads and meaningless. Give it your best shot and hope for the best :)

I’m a current transfer student (I matriculated fall '09). The essays are CRUCIAL. Construct a flawless WHY RICE essay. Moreover, attempt to elevate your cumulative GPA to 3.6+, next semester. Good luck!

Another recent sophomore transfer here (fall 2009). As far as your background, things look fairly solid except for maybe the GPA, though there isn’t really anything you can do about that now since the deadline comes in March. At this point it’s just all about the essays, and establishing why you really want to transfer to Rice as opposed to other schools that are also cheaper.

You definitely have an advantage, coming from a “name” school rather than a community college or a local technical school. Rice likes to pull in transfers from schools that are considered its peers, because it makes us feel good and stuff. I’d say your chances are probably pretty good, but the only assessment of your chances that matters is that from the admissions office, so there you go.

wow you guys think I have a chance at Rice? I was rejected from Rice Early Decision last year. haha maybe its because I wrote my essays the day before and my parents are Texas Residents.

Yeah… writing essays like that wuld hurt. You have a good shot now!

^ How hard is it do well in Rice’s Pre-med Classes. I was enrolled in 2 intro science classes at Vandy (WEEDER CLASSES) and they were really tough. We started out with 80 kids in my Bio and Chem class, and when the final came around we only had 50 kids left(and its only the first semester!). I made an A- in Bio and a B- in Chem(it was my only B that semester, so mad about it).

Oh no a b minus isn’t that terrible

EDIT: Hm, apparently CC has a filter against posting in all-caps.

pre med classes arent hard. They are more competitive than other classes yes (since it seems pre meds are more concerned with grades than actually learning - its harder to work in teams in such classes imo)
