Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2018]

how sure are we that its today just curious

not at all sure, especially because of the lack of an email. I’m cautiously optimistic as is.

Last year there was this user who was a student at Vanderbilt and knew someone close to admissions and (s)he would give the best information :)) Just enough to make us want more!
I’m pretty hopeful for today, honestly. If there’s one thing I could ask is for everyone to get their decision this week lol… and not have to wait for however long the next wave will take.

I’ve been 99.9% sure that it would be today (Tuesday) ever since last Thursday, but obviously, I could be wrong.

Also, I highly doubt that this means anything, but a Vanderbilt student posted this on something called the Vanderbilt Hustler earlier today.

Lots of cool info but that’s the school newspaper (written by students) so don’t bank on it. I never knew my school (BU) was among the top feeders for Vandy. Cool!

So it’s very hard for junior transfer students lol

oh crap applications are up 9 percent… THAT explains the extra waiting time. Yikes.

omg I’m also a BU student! how come I didn’t notice the “Terrier” in your username!

Warren or West?

@luckybaby Whether a student is starts as a junior or sophomore at Vanderbilt depends a lot on the credits they accept from the applicant. Someone finishing up their second(final) year at a community college, for example, won’t necessarily enter Vanderbilt as a junior if most credits aren’t transferred through. It’s actually not that uncommon to “lose” a semester or two.

in other words, if you’re finishing up your second year somewhere, I don’t believe your “chances” decrease.

@AGoodFloridian So you mean all the applicants have the same chance. But after they are admitted, the number of transferable credits makes most of them sophomore?

@luckybaby To my understanding, yes.

This isn’t a general rule but I’d say this. Those that enter as sophomores are probably those who are finishing up their second year at a college but don’t have many transferable credits. Those that enter as juniors are finishing up their second year at a college and have plenty of strong and accredited courses that Vanderbilt likes, thus they won’t “fall behind” too much. Those that enter as freshmen are most likely rising sophomore transfers who don’t have too many transferable credits.

In other words, those statistics are a more “outcome” nature, rather than “incoming”, if that makes any sense.

They said in an old admissions blog that they prefer sophomore applicants. Let me try to find it.

@TerrierNation where did you get the 9%?

@TerrierNation I can see that for one main reason- their residential community. I’d wager that they “prefer” entering sophomores because entering juniors might be too far along the path to make the most of their residential experience. But this is a highly circumstantial, transfer students come from many different backgrounds of all shapes and sizes.

Just as a personal example, I don’t recall any college ever saying that they’d prefer to have a sophomore community college student apply rather than one who has graduated with their AA (essentially a “junior”)- the complete contrary, actually.

the article that investigative journalist @collegeguy16 found

I’m living in the Towers.

I’m in Kilachand, so if we both get in we better meet up before we go to Vandy. Big if!
