i was accepted to BU but chose a lac lol would’ve all met up lol
9% eh? Doesn’t seem as bad of an increase as I was expecting (only around 122 more applicants). Although it probably has an effect on the delay of decisions, it is probably marginal. Maybe their applicant size for the incoming freshman increased significantly, thus explaining this year’s discrepancy.
Where did you guys get this 9% stat
Read the article that was linked. Also look at vandy’s common data set for last year’s transfer cycle to get a gauge on the increase of applicants.

I reaaaallly want to emphasize that part in bold pls
Kinda wish I enrolled at a LAC tbh, big schools are not for me. I can only wounder what my GPA would have been :))
Also, @AGoodFloridian I like your approach on sophomore vs. junior admissions. However, wouldn’t sophomores be inherently preferred since they will have more time to make an impact on the campus community?
Hopefully we will hear in about an hour & 20 minutes!!
@Natedagrate13 “Preferred” is a strong word in admissions. Your point would definitely be a plus for entering sophomores, but I don’t think that point would cause a direct disadvantage for those entering as juniors.
Again, the classification of sophomores vs juniors is a question of credits. If I’m a rising junior right now, but it turns out because not all of my credits match with Vanderbilt’s courses, I get pushed back to sophomore status. Am I being advantaged or disadvantaged in the eyes of admissions?
Transfer admissions, for the most part, is way too nuanced to point out groups that are have clear advantages or not(besides hooks, articulation agreements, and the like, of course)
@AGoodFloridian Since credits are processed and determined after admissions, how would the admissions committee determine class-rank then? And I agree that transfer admissions is nuanced, however I find it fun to try and delve into their decision-making process :))
10 minutes, fingers crossed.
@Natedagrate13 But that’s it, why would admissions have a “preference” for either classification knowing fully well that it isn’t a classification that is set in stone and entirely up to another department?
(and yes, it is fun. I have a feeling some of us here will have a stint at some admissions office in the future. I know I want to lol)
I just want to know where I’m going to school next year lol
@AGoodFloridian Assuming that they have high school graduation dates and a complete college transcript, wouldn’t they have concrete classification for class rank? I guess my point is that there are many more indicators on our application that show how many years we have left, and that the admissions committee can clearly identify who’s who based on these indicators. However my guess is as good as yours when it comes to if they “prefer” sophomores over others.
Also I’m deadass gonna work in an admissions office some day, this stuff is so interesting.
i work for the admission office at my lac but im just a tour guide… lol
A tour guide who wants to transfer is quite ironic :))
i just want to do more publick speaking stuff… lol
bamboozled again!
anything…?
