Vanderbilt Transfer Thread [Fall 2018]

just declined the offer of admission. Good luck guys!

Anyone else heard back? I still don’t have a decision.

Just curious but is anyone transferring into Vandy this year planning to transfer out the following year?
I know this may sound like a weird question to ask but I got into Vandy (not my first choice tho) and although I don’t like the school very much, I don’t want to sacrifice a good school. I plan to spend one year at Vandy and then transfer to my target schools.

Hi! I just put down my deposit a few days ago. I have not received a confirmation email or anything yet, although my portal shows it as complete. Does anybody know what next steps I should take? Thanks!

@Hopeful-TBivy Not to be discouraging, but that’s probably not the best idea. Admissions officers will be a little suspect of someone who transfers multiple times, which could count against you. Discounting that, transferring to Vandy will mean starting over in terms of extracurricular, developing relationships with professors for LORs, research involvement, etc, thus weakening your application. Transferring twice may also seriously delay your graduation, which is never good. My advice is to either stay at your current school for another year strengthening your application and apply to your target schools next cycle (note that many schools take fewer junior transfers), or come to Vandy with the intention of staying there.

If the only thing that appeals to you about Vanderbilt is that it’s a good school, I would stay at your current school, provided you’re not completely miserable there. It’s a risk, but if you don’t think you would be happy at Vanderbilt and your target schools are truly important to you then I think it’s a risk worth taking.

Out of curiosity, what are your target schools?

Did anyone start the housing application yet? Also does anyone know what types of dorms are Generally available for transfers?

@Neurophile my main targets are Cornell, Columbia, Northwestern, and UPENN. I understand that transferring too many times is definitely not desirable; however, because I’m not even sure whether I will get into these schools later on, I want to commit to a good school just in case my future transfer doesn’t work out. I certainly don’t have anything against Vandy; it’s just that I live in the northeast and hope to pursue business so I aiming for “target schools”. Like u said, I’m just worried that admissions officers will perceive of this negatively

@Hopeful-TBivy Well Penn’s not out yet, so hopefully this will solve itself in a couple of days. It’s a tough situation to be in, so I feel you. During last year’s transfer season I applied to Penn and Columbia, but over the months of waiting for decisions I realized Columbia didn’t really appeal to me. After being rejected from Penn I actually felt relieved when Columbia wait-listed (and later rejected) me, as it meant I wouldn’t have to be in a situation like yours. If you really want these schools by all means go for it, but just know that 3 straight years of applying to colleges, with all the stress and uncertainty that entails, can be absolutely brutal, especially as everyone around you is settling in to their college career. That being said, I don’t regret doing it.

@Neurophile Just curious but how many colleges did you attend altogether throughout the transfer process? If I transfer from Vandy next year then it would be 3 different colleges during my undergrad which I know is a bit excessive.

@Hopeful-TBivy I have only attended one, and will be transferring to Vanderbilt this fall as a junior. I only applied to Penn and Columbia last year, as I felt it wouldn’t be worth transferring unless it was a top choice. I applied to a larger range of schools this year, as it’s my last opportunity to transfer.

@Hopeful-TBivy 3 is okay imo  I went to 3 community colleges and 1 university in the past three years since I started my undergrad. Will be transferring to (hopefully the last) university upcoming fall. My total will be 5!

Just curious, at which point our enrollment becomes binding?

Anyone still waiting for decisions? They should have released them last week but still no luck

Just called the admission office. The front desk woman told me the second wave won’t release until May 20.

May 20th???
Holy there must be an obscene amount of applications.
I’m seriously considering pulling my application because I may not even be able to pick Vanderbilt at all.

Dang this sucks

Please pull it if you do not see yourself attending . helps everyone .

Did anyone apply for housing yet or is it currently unavailable?

May 20th is a Sunday! Have decisions been released on a Sunday in the past??

Will the new wave pull from the waitlist??
