Vanderbilt University Fall 2021 Transfer Thread

Yeah, I’m not really sure. I do have a feeling that the number of people accepted in the second wave will be directly dictated by the number of people who commit in the first wave. Which could either be super unfortunate for those still waiting or super beneficial.

Hi guys! I am an international student from China, now studying in BU. I major COM in BU, but gapped the 2020 fall semester, which means I don’t have university GPA yet (though I’m pretty sure I will get all A this term after final). Here are my stats, can anybody help chance me?
SAT: 1510
TOEFL: 112
AP: Macro-5, Micro-4, Environmental Science-5, Physics C Mechanics-4
SAT2: Chemistry-800, Math 2-800, World History-720
IB: Chinese A SL-6, Math HL-7, Chemistry HL-6, Bio HL-5, Economics SL-6, English B SL-7
Extracurricular activities: 3 years of Student Gov President, intern in law firms for 2 months, club leader of Literature club, IHBB silver prize in national level competition, author of two books (literature pieces & political reviews) in HK…
High School GPA: weighted 4.18 (ranked 6th out of 80)
University GPA: (will be 4.0) now unavailable
Apply to: Vanderbilt Political Science (and UPenn, Georgetown, also Political Science)

Ah btw, I have been rejected by Cornell Labor Relations and admitted by NYU Political Science… what if the result of Vandy do not come out before ddl of enrolling in NYU… Is it worth to just give all other universities up and go to NYU… or remaining in BU for next year’s transfer (because I gapped for a semester, I can only apply to the universities mentioned in this message; I can apply for a much greater range of universities next year)? So nervous and hesitant over these questions… and I don’t quite know how US universities work over these procedures… thank you guys!!!

Honestly, BU is an amazing university. As good as NYU. Also, I am not sure if you received any aid, but NYU is not giving any aid to transfers this year. I have no clue why. Vandy might release some decisions this week or next week, so maybe try asking NYU for an extension.

Hey guys, for those who were accepted in wave 1, is the enrollment deposit deadline referring to May 6th, 11:59 p.m. local time?

If NYU is your current number one you can either 1. Request an extension of the payment deadline or 2. If they won’t grant one, pay your enrollment deposit to hold your spot. If you get into any other schools you like better you can deposit there and inform NYU you’ve decided not to attend. You will lose your deposit at NYU.

As far as staying at BU vs transferring that’s up to you. You’re looking to transfer….are you unhappy with your experience at BU? Also note if you receive any FA at BU (I’m thinking you don’t because you’re an international student) you probably won’t receive as much or any as a transfer. You’re welcome to try and transfer as many times as you want to before the end of your sophomore year. Schools require transfers to attend at least 4 semesters so once you’re in your junior year transferring is pretty much finished.

Why are you restricted to applying to the unis you listed?

since today marks 2 weeks since the first wave, could there potentially be some decisions released today?

bro i applied before the March 15th deadline and havent heard ANYTHING. this is honestly making me kind of upset. I am going to hear from every school that I applied to before Vandy if we have to wait another two weeks, and three of my deposit deadlines will have passed.

Maybe try requesting an early reading?

thank you veryyy much! it’s extremely helpful for me! My other friends also tell me about deposits, and that seems a great affordable insurance for me! About my reasons for transferring, well, I love BU, but I am just… you know, just trying to climb up on the ladder a bit haha. Many of my friends with BG similar to me went to much better schools. And in my home country, HR really cares about rankings… It’s “wise” to discard BU and go for universities with “more shining” rankings like NYU, (especially with what happened in QS rankings of US universities… QS rankings are more prefered than US News ones in my home country)

90% of universities require two semesters’ grades before attending their institutions, so I cannot apply to them as I would only have grades from the 2021 Spring semester. That restricts me to only 5 universities among all Top 40.

Thank you again haha. It seems there are already fellows getting their decision, but I haven’t. Good luck to both of us!!

I’m in the exact same boat tbh. I turned in everything on March 15th and they had a processing error with my college report. I asked my AO about it and he said it shouldn’t have an impact on the timeline. I have a deposit deadline for WashU on the 17th and I’m honestly close to just withdrawing my app from Vandy. Vandy was initially my top choice, I really like the school and major but I need some actual closure. If this is the second wave then that means that the rest of us aren’t even going to hear till like the end of May. I’m just pissed and don’t know what to do.

did you also apply before the 15th?

Thanks! It’s a bit shameful to say, but I am going for a higher university rankings, both overall ranking and ranking in majors… HR in my home country have great emphases on these rankings…:joy:

I also had an issue with my college report. Vandy said they couldn’t find it but do other school I applied to had an issue with receiving/processing it.
