I applied ED1 to vandy’s college of arts and sciences, but my alternate choice school is peabody. i’ve heard peabody is easier to get into, so should I have changed peabody to my first choice? also, do they ever admit people into their alternate choice school if they don’t think they’d be a good fit for the first choice?
I’m not sure how you have knowledge about a specific school’s selectivity. Vandy is selective across the board, so I wouldn’t worry about the choice of school. There are SO many factors that go into admissions; if Peabody were the easiest to get into, everyone would apply for it and transfer to different schools later on.
I don’t think Vandy will normally make decisions like that: you’ll most likely be admitted to the school you’ve applied. However, you can easily transfer to Peabody if you’re not happy with A&S, once you’ve enrolled.
I believe the way “alternate choice” works is you are considered and reviewed by your first choice (A&S) and if they say no, you are passed on the the alternate choice (peabody) and reviewed again for that school. Basically just giving you a second chance at getting admitted.
If A&S accepts you, you will not be reviewed by peabody. A&S could potentially not find you a good fit and peabody could.
Keep in mind that although it is rumored that peabody is easier, if your application and career goals do not match up with what peabody could provide, you most likely will not be accepted. For example, if your major is economics and your app expresses interest in business, peabody will not find you a good fit.
thank you both! I just wasn’t sure if I would still be considered for my alternate choice school, if I didn’t get into my first choice, since I did Early Decision.
If you are only accepted to your second choice does the early decision commitment stand or are you no longer required to enroll at Vanderbilt?
@a20171 So representatives from the individual school will review your application? I was under the impression that it was the just the admissions team.
i have never heard of alternate choice. and thought it was an admissions team…starting with your regional rep from the admissions office.
maybe so
