How much will my SAT II scores help me. They are in the mid 700s and all the four I have taken pertain to both my majors. My ACT score is borderline for vandy but my rank (#2/239) and GPA are pretty good. How much will this help me get in?

PS - Does vandy accept the January SAT II scores? And how much will being a minority help me?

Vandy says that sat 2's aren't required, but if you do submit them they can either help you or hurt you. So they are definitely considered. Im not sure about January scores.
And it depends which minority

I don't know how important SAT II scores are to Vandy, but I do know that I visited WashU last year and the admissions officer said "Don't waste your time taking SAT IIs." so I suppose that gives you a little insight if you applied to WashU....haha. I'm sure you'll be fine, your stats seem good and your rank (and I'm assuming) GPA are awesome. I don't know if it will help you get in though, none of us do....

In regard to your being a minority, I don't know. Which ethnicity do you identify with? If you didn't know, admissions will be sending "MOSAIC" invitations this week, so if you get invited it is essentially an acceptance and you can attend the weekend in March (basically an admit weekend for multicultural students).Good luck, I'm really hoping to get one of those invites, but am really nervous about it too! ahhaa, I should have never read the blog! Here's the link if you're interested -- The Vandy Admissions Blog

D1 bombed the SATII's....<700 on both....accepted RD....

and btw, dpatz, I think the Wash U admissions people, while lovely, tend to tell peeps things they think they want to hear.....personally, I wouldn't believe most of what they say....for ex, demonstrated interest is "supposedly" huge...only kid accepted last year from our HS had to ask other kids in the class that were waitlisted about their opinions of the school since she applied without doing ANY research.....had zero contact with the school...

Rodney, I would hardly say a 700 is "bombing" the SAT II.

Longhorn, I would think your scores would be a plus. You've taken four and done well, which demonstrates your proficiency across a range of subjects.

mamster....you missed the < sign....lol...no, she didn't hit 700....and considering the SAT II scores of the CC'ers applying, we were pleasantly surprised.....

World History is lame anyway. :) I was really disappointed that they didn't have a European History subject test, since THAT is where it's at.

All I think is that "every little bit helps." And I guess, if you have lots of these "little bits" then altogether, they just may help you a lot in the end.

"....European History subject test, since THAT is where it's at". Insinuating that other parts of the world are not worthy of studying? Euro-centric SOB.

^ hahahaha no dpattz, I know what hilsa meant. It's not racist or elitist at all to say that Europe had more of a historical influence on the world than the East (and was therefore way more interesting), since the East was/is so isolationist.

and hilsa, that's exactly why I bombed WH. I would've aced a Euro test, because I know a lot about Western Civilization, but not a whole lot about 18th century Cambodia hahahahaha.

dpattz, I was joking. That's why I put the smiley face. Or maybe YOU're joking about my joking...

I just took AP Euro and absolutely loved it. When I studied China, which took up a considerable amount of World History, I was so bored because, like Luke said (oh, can I even use your real name anyway? Some people get bothered by that) it is so isolationist, and there are probably about 438 billion dynasties to remember!

And bluebayou, awesome! I hope you're right!

haaha, guys, I am completely kidding as well! I was just trying to make a funny.....and, on that note, I was really disappointed that they didn't have a Native American history subject test because THAT is where it's at and I would have completely aced that mo!

I'm an Asian Indian (Not sure that will help me). I wasn't born in the US. I moved here when I was 7. But i'm also from Mississippi (Geographical diversity? Even though its in the south). So, i hope that would be a plus. I don't think MS has the best high schools that send kids to ivys. MS maybe has two really good HS and both of them are about 3 hours away from me. I go to a HS that pretty much sends most of its kids to the local university and the community college. Most kids or my counselor at my school don't know what SAT IIs are.

I guess with my SAT IIs all im trying to do is compensate for my not so good school.

And Vandy mails out the letters for Mosaic 09 beginning this week?
