Has anyone here gone to campus to spend the night in a dorm. I'm wondering whether it is worth the expense. Is there some kind of program connected with it that allows you to accompany students to classes and meals?

My S arranged an overnight two years ago in October via admissions. The student who hosted him was outstanding in every way..took him specifically to his interests on campus, made sure to introduce him to profs and to someone in admissions, handed him off to other students for meals. They give out lists of classes you are allowed to attend in the Admissions office. Son attended three classes. I have to say his impression of Vanderbilt only improved after this visit, and we have lived their twice so he already liked the city. He did not ultimately enroll there, but has some regrets as Nashville is an outstanding city and Vanderbilt is knit into the community for internships and jobs in very positive ways. Students were from many regions in the USA and were forthcoming on details, extremely gracious and professors were clearly very friendly and accessible for a college of its size. My spouse did a graduate degree there and we are very happy to see the path the undergrad school is on now re attracting a student body of geographic and point of view diversity. Transfers from the airport are easily arranged. Go if Vandy is a top choice by all means to get your final impressions.

it is completely worth it. you just organize it w/ the school and they find someone for you to stay with on campus. i highly suggest visiting on a thursday or friday because then you'll get a better sense of what it is really like. mondays through wednesdays you can find stuff to do but the closer you get to the weekend the more fun it is.
