Vandy vs NU vs Duke vs WUSTL

Hi, I have unofficially committed to Duke, but I am having second thoughts. Duke offered $47000 with 5k in loans, Northwestern offered $51000 with no loans and Wash U offered $49000. My parents make $100,000 combined. Is it worth to go $20000 in debt for Duke? I got a pell grant from NU, which i am assuming is a mistake, given our income. Is it that much better to go to Duke over the rest for someone who wants to go into investment banking?

I like Duke and haven't visited NU or wustl but I'm fairly sure I will still like Duke's work hard, play hard mentality.

I've heard WashU is pretty boring and quite frankly has an unattractive student body as a whole. Obviously there will be hot girls and some people who throw down, but from a friend who is similar to me, it won't be a good fit. Any insight!

I've heard NU does fairly well in IB recruiting. Is it as good as Duke recruiting? I also heard they do throw down, but although they might be better than WashU, the social scene pales in comparison to Duke.

Lastly, Vandy throws down hard and everyone is beautiful, no joke. However, I heard their recruiting is bad compared to the rest. I did like it while I visited, but I want strong programs.
I haven't got my package yet, but I'm assuming it will be similar to Dukes aid, but in all grants.

I am looking for NYC recruiting (I live here). Also, ignore my location, haha.

I’m sorry… Your post said i-banking and hot girls… I can’t take you seriously

^ hahahahaha.

I know a few students at NU, and I’ve been to a couple NU parties. Not too impressive, IMO. There is a small student faction that does throw down, but from what I’ve been told and seen, it’s like the same 100-200 people.

Hey, it’s all work hard, play hard!

I need insight.

I think you’ll fit in at Duke.

Go to Duke. I love the people at NU, but it’s not nearly as much of a party school as Duke is. We’re the baby brother of the big 10, and that doesn’t sound like what you’re looking for.

I love the characterizations of the schools by attractiveness. Classic.

Go to Duke.

Why in the world did you apply to Macalester???

Duke sounds right to me. Say hello to the lacrosse team.

Are you suggesting there’s not significant throw down at Macalester?

Haha, tougis. Exactly! Or rather maybe the kind of “throw down” that wouldn’t be very well understood at Duke!

Hot girls, throw down, investment banking, Coach K. What the hell more could anybody ask for? I’d tell NU to give me the Pell in cash and just take it over to Duke.

Can’t watch Duke games anymore because of Coach K working the officials and crying literally in the first 30 seconds of every game. I think he probably starts in the parking lot before the games. And I think a lot of the “hot girls” might be over at UNC and down the road at Wake Forest.

When I toured Duke, UNC, and Wake with my brother (he was a senior, I as sophomore) I remember the most attractive girls being at UNC (It’s public, and large. Makes sense) and Duke and Wake Forest both still being pretty good. But really, if you’re attractive enough to get an attractive person of the opposite gender, then it shouldn’t matter where you go. There are attractive people at every school, and they are usually similar proportions to the general size of the school.

Petty bantering aside, Duke has the strongest relationship with Wall Street banks among these schools by a healthy margin. NU is solid but it sends more grads to Chicago’s finance scene and I feel like its student body is slightly more geared towards Engineering/Management Consulting.

^NU has six different colleges; its student body has more diverse career interests; most people that want nice pay checks right after colleges probably wouldn’t have gone to schools of journalism, education, communications, or music at NU at the first place. There are a decent number of NU students that are prelaws, premeds or want to get into MC/IB, but in comparison to places like Duke, the culture that gravitates towards IB or high-earning jobs and the peer pressure that comes with it are not as strong.

DUKE…sli8ghtly over NU

Slieightly? That’s an interesting word. I’m sure good advice is al8ys writ10 like this… :-D

Maybe you would like NU…You can take that famous sex class with power tool demonstrations…

That was a guest presentation, not a required part of a class. But nice try

…and some presentation it must have been!
