Varsity Sports

Do colleges ( especially the Ivy schools) tend to select students who participated in many sports?

Ivies are tougher because they allegedly offer no athletic aid (which is why I didn't apply to any). HOWEVER, if you're good enough, they will find ways around that (I wish I knew that earlier in my college selection process). I have a bunch of friends going to Ivies with grades not nearly as good as mine (Brown - 1280 SAT, UPenn - 1150, 1310 SAT, Cornell - 1280, Dartmouth - 1190). It really depends on how good you are at your particular sport.

Ecliptica, did you go to your school last month to do your paperwork? Do you like the coach a lot? And the campus? S now has D_______on his list. Maybe you can run together!

If you're participate in sports it helps a lot, because it shows that you have committed yourself to a time-consuming activity. However, you can do this with other activities as well.

MomofWildChild - No!! The flight got cancelled because we had a huge snowstorm/blizzard!! (but we did get school cancelled for three days, so that was the trade-off).

I'm flying out Monday morning from Providence and coming back Tuesday evening. My state championship meet is Sunday, so hopefully I'll have some good stats to report to the Coach :). Just from the phone conversations, I really do like the coach, so I hope he's as nice in person as he is on the phone.

What do they think about music? Is that as time-consuming?

Let us know how the trip goes, and ask the coach if he needs a good distance guy for next year's recruiting class. :) (Did you see where Bryan Scotland signed with Penn?)

You know the answer to this question..

Scotland is very good friends with one of my best friends, who also signed with Penn, and I think that helped to convince him to go there. Both my friend and Sctoland are sub-1:54 800 runners and, if my friend didn't get hurt this year, would have most likely been a sub 2:30 1000 runner (Scotland is #1 in the country at 2:27). Penn has a solid recruiting class, especially for an Ivy.
