D’s profile: GPA 4.0/4.9 W, SAT 1580 (800 on math), AP Class 12 total (5 on all taken so far, except 3 on French), extracurricular Above average, besides softball most activities are related to her major, comp sci / CyberPatriot (computer science competition team) president at her all-girls school or theatre (she’s the head of technical theatre and stage management)
She wrote very specific answer in the “Why Vassar?” Including having looked at dissertation work she found interesting for an Asst Professor in the Comp Sci dept. Also submitted an arts supplement for technical theatre in the “Your Space” option (specific to technical theatre opportunities at Vassar)
Waiting to hear from Brown but that’s the last one. Had been ED, then deferred, then denied at Williams, so still tender heart in our house. But obviously she has some wonderful options which we’ll need to figure out in April.
Best wishes to everyone going through this - this year is hard across the board!
i got in and am not nearly as decorated as the other students described.
uw gpa is a 4.0 (school also doesn’t weigh)
did not submit ACT/SAT (submitted two 5s on APUSH and AP Lang exams)
only 5 APs as of this yr (out of the seven my school offers) and a good bit of dual enrollment courses from local CC
mostly honors core academic subject courses
a couple of leadership positions in my ECs, modest regional-level awards for writing (silver/gold key for scholastic)
trans female from southeast TN at a public arts magnet school. i did write my common app essay on being banned by administration from using the women’s restroom at school, so maybe something happened there. my why vassar essay was kind of average (did not have the financial means to visit anywhere even slightly far from me). i’m almost completely sure i’m going to vassar, though. i’m extremely grateful and lucky to be given this opportunity. i never thought i could get into a school like vassar, so this is all so exciting
I saw some numbers over on Reddit A2C. I think somewhere around 685 seats from 11K apps? Not sure how many were accepted for those seats but I have heard their yield is around 30%, maybe higher recently.
Last year Vassar admitted 96 of the 634 applicants who accepted a position on its waiting list. Note, however, that waiting list acceptance ratios represent one of the most highly variable statistics in college admissions.
The percentage of those who accepted a place (41%), while accurately posted, seems low. It’s more typical for ~60% of applicants offered a place to accept one, at least at Vassar’s peer colleges.
I can’t find anything on this thread, but I applied to Vassar RD this year and people are talking about how for one of them a picture appeared on the top of the status portal a few days ago. Is this indicative of anything, or was it indicative of anything last year? Or just a glitch maybe?
