Vassar College

Hi! I was just wondering what the campus/party life is at Vassar College?

If you do know, which one is best for biology?

and also as an African American woman, what is life like on the campus for minorities?

also, what is the food like?

Hey! So I can’t tell you much about the party life cause it’s not really my cup of tea. However, I can tell you that they do happen! Sometimes with an org like Black Student Union or private parties in the townhouses off campus. Although I think in order to have an official party you have to register it with security and you can’t have alcohol. Being invited to a party with alcohol you kinda have to know some people, cause those kinds of parties tend to get shut down. Campus life is great! Lol

In regards to your biology question, I’m not sure what you’re asking. But if you mean classes for biology I have a roommate who is taking biology and she likes it. She has to remmeber a lot of stuff and you have to put a lot of time to it. But also keep in mind that not all bio 101 classes are the same, or at least this year they’re not. I don’t know if they’ll change anything in the future. One bio class could be teaching about dogs and another about something else lol.

On being an African American on campus, there aren’t a lot of us but I think it’s fine. I can only speak from my own experience but I haven’t experienced anything super negative. I mean, you do meet the occasionally ignorant person, but other than that everyone is very nice and supportive. We also have orgs on campus like Black Student Union where you can meet other African American students on campus!

Lastly, the food. OK, so our dining hall was recently renamed from ACDC to Gordon Commons but people will still call it the Deece just cause. We have several food options on campus. One is the Deece where you can eat as much as you want anytime you want from 7:30 am to 1:am! We have the Express and the Retreat where you can get a quick meal in between classes or if you don’t feel like eating at the Deece. Although the Retreat is only open for a couple hours. We also have the Vassar food truck called “Street Eats” that can have pretty much anything. The menu changes once a week and it can range from hot dogs one week to a pasta bowl the next week. That runs Monday-Thursday from 5pm-9pm. In addition, if you eat from either the Retreat, Express, or the food truck you have to wait 4 hours before you can eat there again. However, the Deece in unlimited and all you can eat so if you’re still hungry after the food truck you can eat there!

Omg, this is so long. But yea if you have other questions just, ya know, @ me lol.

And the food is fine lol.

Class of 2021 has 35% students of color. If you include international students, 42% are person of color. My D is half Asian. Her friends were everything from Whites, Asians, Internationals and African Americans.

I heard of some stupid students who did some stupid stuff to stir up the racial tension on campus. They were quickly reported, investigated and I think they were eventually expelled from the school. It happened once or twice while my D was there.

The campus is overwhelmingly welcoming of all types of students, so I can see bored idiots want to create some controversy.

As for the events and party scene, there are just too many things to do on campus, you need to pick which to attend.
That was the least of my D’s concern.

Food is fine.

To contrast w/ SaphaelEterna, I go out/party at least twice a week (no class on Fridays is the move). So clearly, if you want to party you totally can, and if you don’t, you have tons of options for sober fun too. Definitely a place where you’ll never feel pressured to party, but if you want it, lol by god it sure is there.
