Totally jealous that you’re fluent in French and Russian. I take French at school but I’m in a class with only sophomores so we’re going very slowly.

I took Latin until last year, but they aren’t offering it at my level this year so I took ancient Greek instead.

I really want to learn German and Russian, neither of which is offered at my school.

The mail normally gets to my house around 11:30-noon.
I have a study/lunch from 11:30-12:30. It takes 20 minutes to get home.
Coincidence? I didn’t think so. That is, until my parents refused to allow me to leave for “a doctor’s appointment”.

So I’m stuck waiting. I will not be able to sit through Calculus last period knowing my letter is at home.

I am for sure. I want to do my junior year in France.
I don’t think I’m going through a school program though because most are in Paris or Strasbourg and I want to be in a smaller city.

We used to offer Latin as an elective but it got cancelled, too few people or something like that.

kgb1337 I’m jealous about the french. if… tomorrow is christmas come early for me then I absolutely plan on starting french next year.
and I would absolutely do the junior year abroad, as hard as it would be to leave the campus… ahhhh please just let me get in
tanabelle where would you go?

I’ve torn between Switzerland and Australia.
But if I am lucky enough to get into Vassar, I can’t imagine wanting to give up one of my four years there!

I don’t know about junior year abroad. Why leave when you’ve found the perfect place? I guess I’d have to see have I feel. I really want to go to Norway someday.

i know how you feel tanabelle, it would be hard to leave…
but if I get enormously lucky and get in and THEN decided to, it would probably Japan, or France. I’ll have to pick one of those languages in the end according to a person in the admissions… which is sort of sad.

Sarahflera: are you talking really small or just sort of small? Nice in the south isn’t small at all but there are a couple small towns near it like Vence that are really just… amazing.

Well my sister just spent the year in Freiburg, Germany which is a small college town. It was a much better experience because she didn’t have to deal with tourists or just a really international city. I want to be in a more traditional city.

yeah I get what you mean. well there are tons, especially in the middle of france. I lived there last year, but I was in a bigger city and the tourists at the end and beginning of summer were the worst.

Okay, +10 for your living in France! I would be the most obnoxious tourist ever, with a little English to French dictionary and a giant unfolding map.

lol trust me, for the first 4 months I was the epitome of a tourist. the looks i got when i tried (and failed) to speak french… epically horrifying.

Haha, I found all these cute French petnames to call my boyfriend and every time I use them he’s just like… “stop.”
And I just thought about how next year’s EDers are going to be reading through our thread looking for advice and we’re talking about another language. Hehe.

I really want to do a semester in China and one in Japan during my junior year, but I’ll see how I can fit that in when I want to do an economics and math double major -__-

lol you’re right, we’re seriously getting off topic here. lol about your boyfriend too, have you ever seen flight of the conchords? they have this song feux du fa fa… that completely reminds me of what you just said.

Haha, yessssssssss, I love them! I call my boyfriend “mon petit chou.” Then he gets all weirded out that I’m calling him my little cabbage and I proceed to explain that it’s adorable because everything is adorable in French. Even veggies.
