Vassar Spring Applicants

Hey guys,

Wondering if there is anyone from CC who also applied for Vassar Spring 2010. Does anybody know when they are releasing decisions?

Hi, I applied to Vassar for the spring. They are mailing out decisions on Friday and you can contact them via email at that point and they will tell you your decision.

Good luck!

Omg!!! Really!? How do you know this? I thought it was going to be late December??? I am so not ready for this lol! This friday? Are you sure?

Yup! I called them this morning, that’s what the admissions representative said :).

Ok, wow!! So totally freaking out right now lol Thanks fort he info btw ;)

No problem. Don’t freak out! It’ll all be ok, lol. Good luck! :)

NO WAY. I thought it was going to be late December, too! So we can really email them on Friday and they can email us our answer? Do we just email the Office of Admissions or is it a specific email?

I was told to just email transfer admissions.

I don’t know what I’m going to do. Either wait for my decision or email them on friday and find out. lol Probably will email them.

So guys, whats your major and standing? I’m a Poli Sci major, and a junior :)

Btw, rstrl, I read your EC’s and noticed you founded a Latino Students Association. Where you from? I’m latina too =) Puerto Rican :)

Haha, I don’t expect to get in. But hey, it was worth a try.
I am a math major, first-semester sophomore.
Jammeyale2009, I’m half Indian and half Costa Rican :).

That’s awesome!! Yeah Vassar is a pain but I’m counting that it will be my little christmas miracle. You applied to ever school I applied and then some  Which schools have accepted you so far?

Oh cool, haha. I hope you get in!! I applied to so many schools because I really had no idea where I could really get in, especially since I am coming from a community college. So many advisers told me that all the schools that I applied to were reaches.
Thus far, I have gotten into Lehigh, BU, Barnard, and Brandeis. How about yourself?

That’s great! Congrats  I applied to Emory, Cornell and Vassar. So far, Cornell didn’t want me (and apparently they didn’t want any other CAS applicant). I’m really counting on Emory  That’s my “safety”, which in no way it is but at least I have more of a chance of getting accepted. Now I regret not applying to more schools. I hear Barnard is pain to get in :). So I’m pretty sure you have a chance with Vassar. I had a special moment today with Vassar lol I faxed almost a week ago, some missing papers to Vassar FA office. I never got a confirmation so I sent them an email on Monday. They responded yesterday, like at 4:50pm, that they haven’t received and that I should fax it to them ASAP. I was worried that maybe this missing documents will hurt my admissions chances, so I sent them email this morning confirming the documents. Here’s the email cuz its long to explain lol

My email:

I faxed the papers today at 9am. I want to confirm it was received. Also, is the fact that you have this papers now going to hurt my chances for admission? I am Spring Transfer 2010 applicant. Thank for your help.

Cordially,

The FA advisors response:

Carl Weaver
to me

show details 1:20 PM (9 hours ago)

It will not hurt your admissions decision…no worries.

I said thank you:) and he literally respond back  lol I think I’m reading way too much into this. My thing is he used the word decision. Which means that he probably knows if I was accepted or not, because since Vassar is not need-blind the FA and Admissions office work together. I dunno, I’m crazy and rambling. lol What do you think? Please tell me I’m nuts lol

Haha! Don’t over-think it. It is quite possible he knows  Or it could be a good indication or a bad one (let’s hope it’s the former!) because I’ve had people say that in both circumstances.

this news is blowing my mind. i haven’t really mentally prepared myself for a decision, but it would be great to know-waiting and having it up in the air is killing me. so, you guys are just basically shooting the admissions office an e-mail asking their decision? i’d be so nervous waiting for a reply I don’t even know if i could do it haha. anyways, are you guys planning on attending if admitted? do you want to transfer here as much as I do? I’m trying to be optimistic, because I want to so badly and think I “deserve” it (whatever that means), but reality is getting the best of me.

let me know some good news tomorrow if you contact admissions…

Didn’t get in. Not really upset.
Good luck you guys!!

Here was my decision: Dear Monica:

The Committee on Admission has completed its review of transfer candidates for Spring 2010. I am sorry to inform you that we will be unable to offer you admission to Vassar.

Competition for the small number of places was intense, with 70 students seeking one of the
5 transfer spaces. The high quality of the applicant pool dictates that we must deny admission to many fine candidates. I can only assure you that your application was given every consideration as we deliberated at length.

Your interest in Vassar is appreciated, and we offer our best wishes for your future.

Sincerely,

J.C. Tesone
Director of Transfer Admission

So sorry to hear that rstrl :frowning:

I assumed you email them. Wow 5 spaces?? that’s ridiculous!!! :open_mouth: I feel my chances have gone down considerably lol How long did it take to reply back? I’m still debating if I should send them an email or not. I think I won’t sending one after all. Good luck with the other schools you applied to :)

Haha, no biggie. Wasn’t my top choice. I emailed them at around 8 and got a response approximately an hour later.

Good luck!!

No-go for me too. Got the same letter as rstrl6675…cannot believe they only accepted 5 students! 7%…wow.
Good luck to everyone else!!

rstrl6675…have you decided where you’re going instead? Where else did you apply out of curiosity?

Gonefishing, I am so sorry to hear that :(. Yeah, 5 students is so few! But it is spring, so that’s understandable.

I applied to: Middlebury, CMU, Barnard, Amherst, Cornell, BU, Lehigh, Emory, Brandeis, WashU, Hamilton, Colgate, and Wellesley.

Accepted: Brandeis, BU, Lehigh, Barnard
Rejected: Colgate, Vassar, CMU
Waitlisted: Hamilton

I sent in my deposit for Barnard, but I am still waiting on the other schools.

How about yourself?
