Hey! Anyone else waiting to hear for fall 2013 transfer? 2 weeks into the wait and I'm already feeling so impatient! I was wait listed last year and now applying to come in as a sophomore. Any similar situations out there?

Hi,
I’m a parent of an incoming Vassar freshman. I’m just curious. What compelled you to apply for transfer to Vassar? I’m pretty sure you are getting great education at your current school. Didn’t you get attached to current school after spending a year? What does Vassar have that your current school doesn’t?

Hi, I’m applying to transfer for a few reasons. First of all, Vassar has always been my first choice but, as I mentioned, I was waitlisted and now I’m trying again. Second of all I ended up at a school that was not a good fit for me. I don’t like the big class sizes or the lack of community on campus, things that I won’t have to worry about at Vassar as the classes are tiny and the community is tight knit. Thirdly, I am actually not receiving what I consider a great education at my current school. While some of my professors have been great, a lot of my academic experience has been easy A’s and a no challenge. This is also not a problem at Vassar. So I did not get attached after spending a year where I am, but I still am attached to Vassar.

Thank you for your reply. I wish you good luck trasferring into Vassar!!!

I’m also transferring (ideally to Vassar)…currently a freshman at GW.

Where else did you apply? I’m so anxious about decisions…30 acceptances/300 applicants

Tufts and William & Mary…how about yourself?

Wesleyan and NYU, but I really just want Vassar

I’m also anxious about decisions. We’ll see. What kind of school are you currently at?

Yep, I can’t wait! I’m at a big public school in NYC

Cool, good luck to you!

Thanks, you too!

2013Transfer (and anyone else who applied), are all your forms listed as received yet? I sent them all in weeks ago and there’s still two marked missing. I know it says not to worry because it takes a long time to process but it’s been over 2 weeks since the deadline

Yup, everything is marked as received for me.

So anxious!! Anyone else getting antsy waiting to hear back?

Yeah, though unfortunately we won’t find out until around mid-May as far as I know.

Yeah, I think May 10th… I’m so nervous and excited!!

Last year transfer students got their decisions on the 11th, so at least we’re getting there

Yep! I think a week or two before the notification date they’ll post the official day and time on the login site where we can check the status of the materials

I am a current senior in high school on the waitlist for Vassar, and dreading going anywhere else at all. In the back of my mind there has always been this nagging possibility that I could always transfer after a year, but I really want to go into a school with the purpose of making it my home. Also, i feel like freshman year is sort of important in making friendships, establishing relationships with professors, and getting involved in groups. So I have two questions:
- did you guys go into your original school with the intent to transfer after a year?
- Do you regret your transferring plans? Either made now or even before the beginning of this school year?

Understand, I’m not knocking the whole transferring process, I just really want to know if I can consider it as an option or completely rule it out.

Also, good luck to you all!!! Vassar is an amazing amazing school and anyone passionate about it deserves to get in.

Sorry about interrupting your Vassar angst with questions…

No, and that’s a bad idea. A year is longer than you think.

No, it’s the right decision, but I’m not focusing on Vassar alone.

Don’t try to transfer simply because you can only see yourself at one school. There are plenty of schools that are bad fits, but also plenty that are good fits. Go to the school you like best and reevaluate at the start of your second semester.
