I'm very confused. Are we suppossed to get mailed passes for each of our parents, or do we just use the piece of paper in the permit to report package. If anyone knows stuff about the whole transportation or vehicular access to the Academy on I-Day, it would be very helpful.

I have no idea about vehicle passes since everyone that is coming for me is military so it doesn't matter.

It says it on the permit to report letter.

For just this one time, you can drive onto the Yard with the orders for I-Day. After that, your parents will have to have a FONA (Friends of the Naval Academy) Pass. There should have been an application in all of your paperwork. If the information was completed, you can pick the pass up on I-Day under a tent near Alumni Hall. Your parents will need to reapply for the pass every year to have the privileges of driving onto the Yard.

I do not recall seeing any paperwork included in the packet sent home- did I miss something?

Somewhere in those papers, it said they'd just mail the passes eventually and not to worry about it.

I also read somewhere/was told by a BGO? that there will be a tent somewhere on the Yard I-Day where parents can go to apply for their FONA pass.

Someone said that they should be mailed which I thought was the plan anyway. We still have three weeks, but I thought this would've been taken care of by now.

The FONA passes should be available on I-Day if you filled out the paperwork. If you do not pick one up at that time, they will mail it to you. They will also have the paperwork if you have not filled it out. This is an application that you have to fill out for each academic year. I fill it out and send them a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return and I usually get it rather quickly. I have had to do this numeous times when we purchased new vehicles and moved to another state requiring registering new plates. There is a copy of the application on the usna.org parent's website. Look under the site index and "F" and you will see the link for the application.
