Where do we physically report

Is there a particular gate? I have been so obsessed getting everything else done that I had not stopped to think about this. I can't find anything in my materials. I may have missed it. Anyone know? Thanks

Any gate, use your permit to report package to get in and report to alumni hall

I was looking at Google Earth and it looks like Gate 4 is closest to Alumni Hall. Any input? Also which gate should friends and family use.

gate 4 is usually closed I believe

Gate 3 is usually open to pedestrian traffic and is probably closest to Alumni. If you are staying in town, the hotel shuttles will probably let you off there. If you are walking, it is a good one to use.
I don't recall as we stayed in town that day, but I doubt civiliian traffic is permitted on the yard that day.
Shuttles from the stadium will go in gate 8.

Ok Thanks for the info. One of the letters in my packet seems to indicate that my parents will be allowed in to drop me off at alumni hall, but they have to leave. Is that what others believe also? Another question does my reporting time mean at the gate or at alumni hall?

Your report time means in line @ Alumni Hall, and do yourself a favor: be there 15 minutes early. Yes, your parents can walk to Alumni Hall w/ you. You may want to say your goodbyes before you actually get in the line. It can all get pretty emotional @ that point --

Oh, wait. That was ME getting emotional last year.

They have to leave YOU, as in you are left to enter Alumni hall on your own.
There is, otherwise, a full day of activtiies, presentations, etc. for them to see.
THEN, the big moment at 6p, when you get that precious 40 minutes w/ them at the end of the day.
Encourage them to stay.

40 Minutes???????? not likely. Probably will be 30 or less. All aspects of plebe summer are being tightened. Only two phones calls this summer (instead of three). Just don't want anyone to be disappointed that they didn't have enough time at the end of the day to say good-bye. Plan for less. If you get more, you will be glad.

Actually the schedule states 45 minutes. It is posted on the USNA Web sit at Plebe Summer Information Page

Last year you could show your PTR to drive onto the yard for drop off (no parking on the yard). The driver could then go to stadium parking and take the shuttle back to the yard. The drive out, parking and waiting for shuttle takes some time so plan accordingly or the driver may miss the entering of Alumni Hall and not see their Plebe until 18:30.

40, 45, 30 . . . does it make a difference?
Whatever time you get, be thankful for.

Yes, bill. Mommy and daddy are worth at least an hour.

Well be thankful you are not going to USMA then- those poor folks get "15 seconds" for their final goodbye's at the start of the day.... and then their new Kadet is gone-gone-gone!!!! No more fair-thee-wells after they go through their first day!!!

shhhhhshhhhh......
lest someone at the yard decide to take those precious 30-40-45-60 minutes away!!! Enjoy every second of them!!!! No matter how many "minutes" you get!!!

ps... bring to Stribling: a cold drink for your new Plebe, a snack (they may, may not want it, but have one ready!).... and a towel for them to sit down on.... (can't aford grass stains on their white works!) Moms, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, gf's, etc..... go light on the makeup.... don't want dripping mascara to get on them either!!! And no lipstick!!!! smudges will NOT be good!!!! ;)

Best of luck everyone!!! What a day it will be!!!!!!!!

^^^^^

Honestly, in some ways, the 15-second good-bye may be better. For the plebe, at least.

^^^^ If mine had only had 15 seconds I do believe he would have gone AWOL and followed us out the gate! IDay was the hardest day he has had in two years at the academy!

Please...If you struggle on IDay, seek a Chaplain. It was the best thing my Mid asked for following the oath of office.

Good luck everyone.

Looking around, as well as w/ our own experience, I don't think any Plebe we saw was disappointed to have the 40 [or was it 35] minutes off.

Son's room is next to T-Company. It's quiet at least on the first day.

Actually, it is 90 seconds at WP but lets not nit-pick.

Even though it is specifically stated in the literature you get prior to reporting, you would still be amazed at how many are surprised when they show up and that is actually what they do. Probably best to plan your 'good-bye' before entering the auditiorium at WP.

if you want to see pics on west points r-day and compare them to the naval academys r-day, go to Reception Day 2008
their r-day is today and they will be posting new pics all along the day.

2 down...1 to go....

AFA ws 6-26
USMA is today
USNA is day after tomorrow. Oh my
