Hello, I’m a senior in high school who is interested in applying to Claremont McKenna College for Early Decision 1 as the class of 2020.
I recently had an interview and asked my interviewer about the policy CMC has about freshman not being allowed to own (and bring) the car to CMC campus, and she told me everyone gets around that and the administrators don’t really care about that rule.
First of all, is that true and will older classmen friends allow you to register vehicles under their name?
and second, how much is the vehicle registration permit per year?
Since I live in SoCal, it is important for me to be able to bring my vehicle to class and I’m really curious about this since it may affect my decision to apply to this school.
Thank you so much
Wow, if it really affects your decision on whether or not you’ll apply, then don’t even bother. No, you cannot register your vehicle as a freshman. You’ll find that students rarely leave campus for any reason (even if they do live 15 minutes away). If you try sneaking your car into the lot, you will be ticketed. I think a parking permit is relatively inexpensive after freshman year (maybe ~$50).
How about you worry about getting accepted first?
@Carotid Thank you for your “kind” reply. I was referring to the fact that I must work in order to pay for such an expensive college. If I cannot work, that means I cannot afford the college and therefore of course it affects my choice of whether I want to apply early decision or not. I appreciate your answer, but in a community where everyone supports one another, I wish you would’ve been nicer in your response. Thank you anyways.
So you become involved with the multiple paid opportunities on campus. It’s incredibly easy to find on-campus jobs at CMC.
@Carotid Thank you. That’s nice to know. I just wanted to make sure I will absolutely have the means to pay for such an amazing college. I hope you didn’t think my car problem was as light as you made it sound. It is true that I should’ve explained, but I just want to stress that I am working very hard for this school and I am not letting measly reasons swing me in any way. Thank you again for your replies.
Hey paper flowers, I’m a current tour guide at CMC. Freshman are absolutely allowed to register cars if you can demonstrate a need. I’ve seen freshman register cars for everything from sick grandmas that they need to visit, having braces and needing to drive to orthodontists appointments, working, Etc.
The administration is great at working with students to solve needs.
Alternatively: there is ample ample opportunities for paid on-campus positions. Last semester I worked three on-campus jobs about (25 hours a week)and I’m not even work-study. Let me know if you have more questions!
