Last night I was at Continental Airlines to see KRock's Clausfest featuring Chevelle, Papa Roach, Franz Ferdinand, Jimmy Eat World, Korn, and Velvet Revolver. Although this kind of show is totally not my thing (I play in a ska band and love underground NJ music...nothing huge like this), I came away surprisingly satisified...

Now Chevelle sucked, Franz Ferdinand was boo'd, and Jimmy Eat World was all right.

However, Papa Roach was amazing. Their stage performance was unmatchable, and they had the whole arena dancing around. Coby (the singer) did an amazing job of being a rock star haha.

I didn't think Korn was that good, but they have an unbelievable following. The whole stadium was on its feet singing away to every song. It was a pretty cool feeling (and almost felt cult-ish lol)

Velvet Revolver closed the show. Scott Wylan said something during the set that totally got me thinking: "We don't play rock. We play rock 'n roll." Damn was he right. Their musicality was amazing. Scott danced around crazily and Slash....was unbelievable. His solos in every song were so amazing, he even played behind his head. (And wow although I love my guitar, I wish I could change guitars after every single song while I'm on stage...). It brought back all the original Guns 'N Roses memories, the songs that most guitarists began learning, and the solos we all wished we could play.

Although I'll never change my band's style (we play ska) and leave my roots in the NJ Ska Scene, the show inadvertantly made me realize that we criticize mainstream music way too much just for being mainstream, terming the artists "sellouts"...some artists just can't help reaching millions of fans all over the world. So, lesson learned...maybe next time I'll turn on the radio in the car instead of popping in CDs of local bands...

[the point of this post, I'm not sure, but CC is obviously the place to go to procrastinate doing college essays :) ]
