Ventures Scholar?

I recently got a letter from Cornell congratulating me on getting selected as a Venture Scholar. My counselor and school never mentioned anything about that to me and it seems as I don't qualify for the major qualifications for being a Ventures Scholar.

*You have a 3.0 grade point average or better.
*You have identified yourself as a member of an underrepresented group (African American/Black, American Indian/Native American, and Hispanic/Latino/a) or are a first-generation college-bound student. (A first-generation college-bound student is a student whose parents/guardians had no education beyond high school. Race and ethnicity are not factors.)
*You have expressed an interest in a math- or science-based career.

I meet 2 of the 3 qualifications (GPA and career interest) but I'm neither Black, Native American or Hispanic nor am I first generation. What should I do?

Bump 10 char

My understanding is that Ventures Scholars Program is a national membership program designed to help underrepresented and first-generation college-bound students. It is also has great information for those interested in pursuing math- and science-based careers. It provides a wealth of infotmation for a variety of resources and gets you on the radar for colleges.

Since you stated you are not URM, if you fit in the category of first generation, then you would be eligible. Perhaps your GC, a family member or someone else connected to you may have nominated you.

I’m also not first generation either; both my parents went to college.
