So my FAFSA got selected for Verification and I am having trouble filling some parts out.
There is a section that says “If not required to file a US Federal Income Tax Return: Did you work in 2015? Yes/No/Will File”
I didn’t work at all in 2015 and my parents worked and filed a tax return, so am I just supposed to leave this part blank for all 3 of us? or Am I supposed to put no for me and leave it blank for my parents?
There is another section that says “If not required to file and you worked in 2015: Amount Earned and Attach W-2” I have the same question, am I just supposed to leave this part blank for all 3 of us?
I have no idea, but I’m assuming that if they have a section/that question under each person, it means that the question is specific to every person. So I personally think it means you leave it blank/no for you, and put yes and attach documentation for your parents.
@collegemochii My D was picked for verification as well. She didn’t work or file taxes. On the question “Did you work in 2015”, I put no in the column for her and left the column blank for myself because I did file taxes.
The “If not required to file” column, you would put down the amount you earned, if any, if you worked but didn’t earn enough money to be required to file taxes. In my D’s case, she earned no money so I left it blank. I also left it blank for myself because I did file taxes.
I have already submitted the form and it was reviewed and accepted by UT Finaid. Hope that helps.
