My school is tooo big, 4000+ students. With so many new houses poping up lately the amount of students keeps rising, and because of Katrina even more ended up coming here. I just hate it the hall ways are just so packed, and the teacher to student ratio is pretty bad also. Their opening up another highschool and that'll reduce the amount of students by a lot, but i don't care, wont affect me, i'll be gone to college next year.

My school has 4000+ students as well. There are two campuses, both in separate towns, to house all of us- a freshman campus and an upperclassman campus. I really like it, that's why I want to go BIG for college. However, I don't like not knowing people. Everyday I see a new face. And all the time I hear about people in my grade who I never knew existed. Another downside is that it is very competitive with EVERYTHING- sports, college, classes.

Our school has about 2,500 kids and it's really meant to hold 2,000 or less. It's a small building, only one story, our athletics SUCK, our electives are a joke, and it's way too overcrowded.

The only APs the school offers are Calc AB, the 3 sciences, US History, English Lit., and US Govt. The gifted program (magnet - draws students from the surrounding area) offers Calc BC & CompSci AB in addition, but that's it. It's extremely difficult to get your schedule worked out properly because only 1 teacher in each subject area teaches accelerated or AP classes, and usually only 2-3 hours' worth.

I envy those in smaller schools, & in larger schools that are halfway decent.

my school has about 2000 students, and the hallways are ALWAYS crowded because the building is too small for holding that many students...

i remember when i was freshman the high-level especially AP level classes were small and like actual college classes for frequent small-group discussions. Now my school is urging lots of students to take AP and honors classes, so we have, for example, a 60-people ap government / ap economics class that stay in another room that's 3 times as big as a normal classroom...i can't imagine how u can survive in that class...

everyday ppl try to go from one class to another...it's like a war out there...

my school starts in pre-k and total has 1000 something
but the high school has 400 something
i like it and could not imagine a bigger school. we have all the classes you would want to take.. it's just a matter of fitting it in your schedule. average class size is 15.
or are private schools exempt from this discussion?

Our school is pretty crowded but we are getting a new one...it is really nice. Finally.

my (private) school has 230 girls grades 7-12. i love the smallness of it, it makes for a nice, personal environment.. the principal knows every student by name. a very large high school would probably be a little overwhelming for me especially because im usually pretty reserved around strangers

we have 2,800 people and we're only juniors and seniors

we have 200 from pre-k to 11th.

Our 9th through 12th grade high school has 3200 kids. I'm used to it.
We do offer many AP classes, but the quality of the teachers vary just as at any other school.

My school has around 3300-3500 kids this year, and gets significantly bigger every year (last year was just over 3000). They are planning to build onto it and make it even bigger, expecting 4000 kids I think in the next couple years. I don't mind the large population; the school is all open-aired, no hallways or anything, it's kind of just like a giant park, so there's plenty of room for everyone.

We don't have too much overcrowding with classes. This year, AP English 12 is really full though (over 40 kids), but that's the only class I hear complaints about. I think I prefer the large school to a smaller school. It makes it easier to compete with people. I'm ranked 25/787, which puts me in the top 3% or so, where at a smaller school it wouldn't look as nice, though the bigger class means there are more people that are highly competitive. There are a lot more people to talk to, and if you don't like somebody it's really easy to avoid them. I like my school, but I wouldn't want it to get any bigger...good thing I'm graduating this year.

the one i graduated from had around 3,000 kids and it was pretty miserable. i think whether a high school is big or small, whether or not it's a good school depends almost entirely on the neighborhood and income bracket the kids come from. the city i lived in was for the most part middle class, lower middle class and quite a number of people hovering around the poverty level. There were however...several small isolated neighborhoods that were much more affluent than the rest. the majority of these kids went to one of the many (expensive) private schools in the surrounding area. but the ones that did brave public high school w/the poor kids got the most insane preferential treatment...academics, extracurriculars, sports, you name it. the school itself was way too small (modular buildings popping up all the time), desparately in need of repair (the state threatened to revoke its accredidation if it wasnt fixed up in 5yrs or something), and majorly understaffed.

I went to a small/normal sized school last year with about 800 and our "enemy" school a couple of miles away was like 3000 kids. Most people inter-dated between them though, so both schools pretty much knew what it wa slike to be at the other one, if that makes sense.

Big schools=violence/scary stuff/lots of fights
Small schools=gossip/mean cliques/ and boring

Pretty much our views on one another's schools.

Greenwich High, baby

I dont agree with Lily415's overgeneralization. I go to the same school as munkeegurl and we dont have any fights, violence or scary stuff. Even though we have ten floors, the 3 something thousand kids we have from 9th to 12th makes most coveted classes like AP Pyschology hard to get into. Also our school isnt very diverese, meaning its 55% or more Asian, about 35% white, like 7% Indian and 3% African American. Also everyone in our school is solely concerned with grades and in Junior and Senior years with college, so life sucks at my school.

i got to a school of 3500 (probably one of the biggest in california...)
its awesome because there are so many different groups of people, and you can easily find people to hang out with who share your interests

also, just because a school is large does not mean the faculty is unqualified. even with the large classroom sizes (my math class has 45 students in it), we still product excellent results (and we also boast great IB and AP programs)

big schools are the best!

sorry Gregster...I didn't mean to include ALL the big schools. But that big school I used to live by WAS a real scary school. End of question. :)

Stuy pride! did you know Jacob is in the board too? hehehe. I agree about the AP Psych. I didn't get in >_<

Eh, life is okay at our school but it could be better. =] Also I think the Indian is grouped with the Asians..

hahaha, my class size...right now is 620-ish...but we have two high schools in my district, we're that big.

before the split, we were 1200 per class, so it was bad. Each grade under us has one hundred more people...so, 5000+ high school district?

It's too bad we're on austerity. : p

i win.
5200 kids (and growing!)
three schools
one campus
