i just mailed my common application to the PO Box for CORNELL on saturday and the supplement to the pine tree road address.

i sent it through certified mail and i was checking my status for my COMMON APPLICATION online and it said
"We attempted to deliver your item at 8:24 AM on January 3, 2007 in ITHACA, NY 14851 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender."
the supplement seems to have gotten there just fine.

should i be worried that it hasn't gotten picked up yet? and how can there be a notice at PO Box? i'm freaking out right now because they don't seem to have received it...does anyone know what is going on?

thanks

and i've called the admissions office, but they were confusing and said that all the mail comes to them eventually or something?

i have no idea, i just sent it certified to the Cornell PO Box for the Common Application. I got a postcard back saying that the post office up there got the package...

This is from their web site:
Cornell is currently receiving a very large volume of application materials. During our peak application processing period from December 18 through early February, our staff will be unable to respond to phone calls or e-mail inquiries about application materials. Additionally, the Self Service application materials list will be unavailable during this time. For the next several weeks we will devote all of our time and effort toward getting freshman applications to selection committees so that they may be given a thorough review. In late January or early February, when mail processing nears completion, we will notify you if we are missing materials from your application, and we will provide you with an opportunity to complete your application. In the meantime, please do not send duplicate copies of your application materials. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

If Cornell is using a PO box to receive applications, I can almost guarantee that someone checks the box every day. That someone will see the slip and will sign for your app. They've done this before - you're not the first person to have sent it certified mail.

Sorry futurenyustudent, but re-read the post above from Cornell's website. DO NOT SEND ANOTHER COPY. That's the quickest way to get them angry - you can't even follow directions.
