Very, very big housing problem

So my parents are out of town for a few weeks on a rafting trip and have no access to a computer or even cell phone service. That said, I just received that email about the housing thing and if my parents aren't here, they obviously can't sign an online signature or send in $300. They won't be back until June 5. I tried contacting the UCB Housing Office or whatever, but so far they haven't responded. And to make matters worse, I can't figure out how to see my housing offer! I may just be being retarded, but on my housing portal thing, the only tabs I have are Home and Profile. I don't know what to do!!!! It said on the email that if you need an exception for the payment that you should contact them, but they haven't responded and I don't want to lose my spot. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

did u call and leave a message?

Hit your parents up for a credit card for this type of emergency, and open a bank account, too. Won’t help for this time, but maybe another relative can help.

you should def call and ask a close relative or close family friend to help. your parents can pay them back later. the signature don’t worry about, you can sign “in spirit” for your parents (all you do is type in your guardian’s name into the box), as long as your parents intend for you to go to cal and live in a residence hall.

as for getting the housing portal to show the tab for “application,” you need to clear the cookies. i initially had the same problem; it’s a bad glitch on the housing portal. basically, if you still have the cookie for the housing portal site, it won’t show the application tab. Simply clear your cookies by going to the options area of your web browser. while you’re at it, you should just set your browser settings to delete everything every time you close the browser window/quit the browser.

Thanks to those who replied! My parents did intend to get me a credit card before they left, but forgot, of course. This morning the Application tab popped up and one of my friends (basically the nicest person ever) volunteered to pay the deposit as long as I pay her back. I did call and email (many, many times) but have yet to hear back from anyone at Berkeley. But fortunately I have nice friends and got it in today. Yay!

Repay $ and take friend out for lunch/dinner. The least you can do since she bailed you out.

Housing sucks - they are rude and unprofessional - I had a run in last year with them and they were jerks. I notified many people and never got a reply.

I still haven’t heard anything from anyone at Berkeley, whether by phone or email. I suppose it doesn’t matter now that I’ve sent my housing thing in, but still, that’s a little ridiculous.

Realize how many kids they have to deal with.

They’re human, they’re bound to mess up once in a while.

There’s some guy I’ve been e-mailing with on CalMail and he is really helpful and he gets back to me pretty quickly

That sucks. Maybe it’s because school’s out? I remember calling Housing and getting a really quick reply. This was during the school year though. Now the financial aid people… that’s a different story.
