Very worried - chance me?

I would like some idea on my chance of getting in and where I stand. I am very concerned that I haven't heard back, while a number of people from my school already have. Obviously, the main thing thing thats hurting me is the GPA. I was just hoping the SAT could make up for some of that, but I'm afraid that it's just not enough.

Everything in by 10/7

Instate Public School
UW GPA: 3.5 (not sure on Umich GPA, but it may be a little lower)
4 APs Junior year, 4 senior year, honors classes before that
Class rank: just inside first quartile
SAT: 1560/2320

Main ECs:
4 yrs varsity track and cross country (all area, all regional awards)
3 yrs school newspaper, last 2 yrs as a section editor (some state writing awards)
VP of quizbowl club
NHS

Thanks

i think you might be o.k.
high sat, good ecs. good course load.
only concern is the class rank, and gpa.
slight reach/match
wait you still haven't heard yet? with everything in on the seventh???

Exactly. That's why I'm so worried.

dma, do you attend a competitive high school or do you just not study? There is a disconnect between your standardized test scores and your GPA/class rank.

Yeah, I suppose it's pretty clear that I am somewhat lazy when it comes to class, but I think the fact that I have taken close to the most rigorous possible courseload should be taken into account.
I tried to remedy this by writing one of my essays about my struggles with my sport, distance running, which is a genuine passion of mine. In it, I was able to convey my work ethic and dedication to a pursuit, so hopefully the admission officers see that I CAN be focused and motivated.
BTW, I don't attend an espicially highly ranked school, but I would definetely say it is above average. My class is 400+, also.

*I forgot to mention in the original post, but I am also a national merit semifinalist (hopefully finalist soon) as well.

Still, you have taken 8 APs in high school, so your courses have not be easy. How did you do in the AP exams you took last summer?

At any rate, Michigan is a match for you. Too bad you did not apply yourself earlier. A 3.8+ GPA could have earned you a serious scholarship.

This is another thing I am kicking myself for. I did fairly well on the APs, with 5s on English and US Government, 4 on Physics C, 3 on calculus. But I failed to submit these scores in the original place to submit (prior to taking the AP exams) and did not submit them since.

youre fine i wouldnt stress it. just make sure you call to see that they have received and reviewed all of your materials.

On the Wolverine Access, I says I have the teacher rec, counselor rec, transcript, and SAT. That's all that's needed, right?

yessssirrrrrrrrrr (needed to do that to fit minimum length requirements

4 on physics C won't cut it unfortunately for credit. i'm impressed that you took it as a junior though.
merit semifinalist definitely raises your stock though, but then again why are they taking soooo long i don't know. you should have found out about two weeks ago imo.
last year i had everything in by 10/10, and i found out in the 1st week of november if i recall correctly.

dma1748, wait another week or so. this year i had everything in 10/07 and i found out a few days ago.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. As I wait axiously for their response, it helps to have positive thoughts, although I remain realistic about my odds.
I really really hope I get in; U of M is definitely my dream school.

i think you have a very good shot. don't be worried about the time. i had all my stuff in by september 13th with higher gpa/classrank but lower sats and first heard this thursday.
the order and speed with which michigan has been accepting this year seems to have zero consistency.

I sure hope so. Does anyone else have really strong stats as in, they are pretty much in for sure (3.9/33), instate, and applied pretty early, that still hasn't head back?
