VERY. worried

I applied to Yale SCEA and it's been more than a month since I submitted my app. Got the post card and Eli account and everything, but I still haven't been contacted for AN INTERVIEW!

What does this mean? Because I know other people who applied to Yale from my school got their interviews, even the ones that submitted the app later than I did. I'm seriously worried. Does this mean that I'm an automatic reject and they didn't even have to consider me for an interview? Did anyone get into Yale without an interview?

First of all, of course many people have gotten into Yale who did not have an interview. I completely understand your fear though; I, too, would be deeply unsettled by this situation. My first suggestion would be to contact the admissions office and tell them your situation and ask for the contact information of the local alumni interviewer(s) in your area. Or, if you'd feel more comfortable, ask one of your schoolmates who have already been contacted by the interviewers.

In short, this apparent anomaly in the system does not, at all, preclude your consideration for admission; at least, that is my modest opinion on the matter. Although, I do admit, it's quite unsettling. Just don't be afraid to let them know who you are and what you're thinking! Good luck.

It's not an anomaly. There are quite a few people who haven't been contacted for an interview. The person who assigns the interviews is a volunteer who knows nothing about your qualifications. There are a dozen reasons why that person hasn't assigned an interviewer to you. None of them bear on your likelihood of admission.

Call the admissions office and get the name of your local Alumni Schools Committee director, the person who assigns the interviews in your region. Do it TODAY as interview reports are officially due on 12/1 with an extension to 12/5 for applicants whose names were processed to their ASC directors late in the game.

If it's any consolation, having an interview has little effect on the total decisions process

I agree. I don't think the interview plays an important role at all and it's fine if you don't receive one; it won't count against you and doesn't mean anything.

Hi asdf123456,

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I applied to Yale RD and didn't hear ANYTHING about an interview either. When I emailed the person in charge of my area, he basically told me there are so many applicants and its just not possible to interview all of them. I thought I would be rejected, but now I'm here at Yale. So don't worry! Alumni usually do the interview in that area, but they're different from the admission officer. But definitely email the alumni/person in charge. Best of luck!
