Veteran needs help choosing a university

I am a US Army Veteran and I want to complete my education. Currently I am in the position to complete my education without disruptions from deployments. I am having a difficult time choosing the right distance learning university to attend. I am inundated with calls from universities to sign up for their college. Most fall under the for profit category and I am hard pressed to determine my best course of action. The main concerns is one, the legitamacy of said for profit schools and if a non profit is a wiser choice. Secondly, are for profit schools seen in a similar light as non profit schools as far as accreditation and viability in the job market. Third, what is a good standard for attending distance learning schools as far as curriculum, technology used thereof to interact with the course material and fellow students and the typical duration and fees for courses. I want to make the best decision possible for my time, money, validity of degree and educational quality of the program. I am looking for a bachelor’s of science in either Information Technology with a Specialization in Security, or Computer Science with a Specialization in Security. Any help would be much appreciated. I am using Tuition Assistance, Post 9/11 GI Bill, and other funding sources, no student loans or FAFSA.

Hey. Hoping this comment reaches you almost a year later. I am a fellow veteran who works for a distance learning school, and use my gi bill here. I really enjoy it. It is online, yet you still have live interactive classes. Feels like a class room from home. Once I got through my general classes my teachers have done a great job of pushing me and the quality of education feels good. Feel free to call or email me with any questions.

I know this is an old thread but I’d recommend UMUC and Penn State to my fellow veterans. They both have reputable programs. My rule of thumb when it comes to online degrees is to attend a school that has at least one sports team (football, basketball). Your degree will not be questioned by anyone because it will be recognized the same as that of someone who physically attended classes.
