Have any of you noticed that Amherst is the only lac that is still using their 2005 view book? Every other lac that I am applying to has sent out their 2006-2007 book with their admissions materials but not Amherst. Somebody was nice enough to post the new 2006-2007 application supplement but as of five minutes ago the Common Application notes that Amherst was still working on theirs. With a billion dollar endowment I would love to receive an up to date view book with up to date statistics and information. I called the admissions office and was told there was no new book yet. Have any of you received the 2006-2007 admissions materials? It would be nice if the Common Application could get the supplement so people who want to apply ED can do so.

When I applied to Amherst two years ago, they sent me the same viewbook they sent my sister in 2000. I don't know when it had been originally published, but some of the students in the photos dressed like the kids on saved by the bell (early to mid '90s). Perhaps frugality contributes partly to the billion dollar endowment. I wouldn't use the frequency with which schools update their admissions materials as key criteria in judging them, however.

Pfft, the endowment all goes towards building brick walkways across busy streets, because apparently all these top students can't figure out the right way to cross a street unless it stands out.

I agree it is not the basis of judging Amherst as a school or a place to spend four years. However, it would be nice for the school to highlight all of the new construction that has been going up over the last few years and to update new programs and statistics.
Their view book is a public relations instrument to compliment their web site and a glossy, fact-filled new one would be nice. However, I am looking forward to applying there.

in this age of internet, i'm surprised colleges are spending their money on booklets still. they should just send a letter with a wed address and all of the pretty pictures you want you can find there and the endowment can go to better things

I haven't gotten a viewbook yet, even though I added my name to their mailing list months ago. I've gotten dozens from other schools that I hadn't even requested information from, but nothing from Amherst. Anyone else in this situation? I know the viewbook's not really that important, but they're pretty :)
