Villanova - Class of 2025 - Early Action

I got in with a 1360 SAT, weird

Congratulations! I don’t think it’s weird, just below the 25-75 range that is quoted above (as apparently posted a random counselor). And who knows if these counselor numbers are even correct. Kudos on your acceptance!

I think for a lot of higher and upper 1390 test takers it’s going to come down to financial aid. My son had a higher score and he loves the school, but if he gets a better financial offer elsewhere, then he’s not going to be gone

My son was deferred to Regular Decision and he got an email to send his mid semester grades. Is this common practice for everyone… or is it because they want a better look at him?

Just a reminder for those of you who will not attend Villanova, please let the admissions committee know and withdraw your application so it opens up spots for those who were deferred and is their top choice!

Not sure about Villanova specifically, but this is common practice. You should’ve submitted mid-year grades when they became available if you were deferred, so this email could just be a reminder to submit them.

Nice thought, ginger03. If Villanova wants us to make a decision they need to send out their financial aid packages. They are not planning to send them to anyone until they release Regular Decision. We need to wait until we get that info to decide.

Does anyone know if it is necessary to submit the IDOC if you already have submitted CSS Profile and FAFSA. It seems a bit excessive

Oh, I did not know they did not get released the same time decisions were released. My bad!

My daughter got deferred with a weighted GPA of 5.1, SAT of 1490! Captain of Basketball and Math Team, President of National Honor Society!

Hi rosesandmoonwater, Can I ask what your stats were to get accepted to Villanova Nursing?

Much more important than pure stats (as in schools could fill a class with perfect test score kids etc) are the institutional goals of the school - which are NOT transparent and extend way beyond “stats” - could even be a special skill or life experience. More likely though, THE main differentiating factors are the boxes the applicant checks in their app so the school can make selections based on their desires/needs AND score better in categories for all the rankings which they are chasing. That is the “diversity” they speak of (they call it the wholistic process which makes it sound less clinical) and it could be ethnic, sex, race, regional/state, 1st gen an on and on. Why else would they ask these questions ( “which sex were you assigned at birth” on the CA application) if NOT to use in the process ? So, if an applicant possesses something a school wants in a particular cycle, the fact is that applicants “stats” may be (let’s be honest, are) less important in comparison to those who do not check said box.

No judgement, schools are running a business. It is simply the way it is now and the definition of “merit” has evolved way beyond stats for likely entry. You just have to realize one’s numbers do not show the full picture anymore …

4.333 weighted GPA
test optional
ECs: Children’s Church Teacher, Captain of Varsity Cheerleading, President of NHS, VP of school’s drama club, chorus, HOBY ambassador, and representative for a local leadership seminar
Awards: President’s Service Award, Essay Winner, Humanties Department Award Winner, DAR Good Citizen Award, etc
Key notes: I definitely think my ecs and personal statement were my strongest attributes. The writing portion is equal to, if not more, than pure stats

I think they are trying to protect their yield and deferred many overqualified kids as they worry they might go somewhere else…

I agree. Many schools seem to be taking the approach of increasing deferrals to shake out their pools and protect yield. Delayed EA cycles, increased deferrals and the overall increase in applications at most schools should make for a very interesting spring. I am not sure if the schools or the students will ultimately get impacted, but someone will. Based on this climate my daughter made the decision at the end of December to double down and apply ED2 @ BC to mitigate the risk. Good luck to everyone and please make sure you have adequate back up plans.

Daughter got deferred Early Action. Wrote letter of continued interest just not sure where to send it. Should she send directly to her admissions counselor or upload it to the portal?

Figure out who her regional rep is and send a direct email. My son used this link…

Thx. Just sent it and got an automatic reply… hope her counselor will read it!

Son got an automatic reply, too. He then later received a very nice note from an assistant telling him that his note was ‘taking a great step in reaching out to let us know you remain interested.’ So I guess it didn’t hurt!
